There are iSATA (Internal SATA) to eSATA adaptors designed for PC's, if you wan't to give up the hard drive or optical drive, you could drill into the case, connect the adapter, and mount it. That will give you all of the speed you need.

There's a thread about this at MacRumors.com, and they seem to think not. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.p...
Although a few posters note that there are USB to eSATA and Firewire to eSATA adapters. But these would not give you the eSATA speed that you're probably looking for.

I actually have done that, taking out the optical drive from my iMac7 and use the sata-esata cable to connect with an external raid hardisk via the ram slot. But for some reasons the OS does not mount the external harddisk. And the disk utlilty does not show it.
Do you think sata port for optical drive is specifically designed for only optical drive use? Any idea?
