Installed Samsung 860 EVO SSD, no wi-fi & wont turn on without charger

I just purchased a 1TB 860 Samsung EVO SSD on Amazon to improve my MacBooks performance. I cloned the SSD and went ahead and swapped out my HDD for the SSD. I plugged the battery back in and started putting the cover back on.

When I pushed the power button the Mac did not want to turn on at all. I was confused because I was sitting around 85-90% before I swapped the drives. I decided to plug in the charger and it started up. It took a little longer than usual but I thought it was okay because I figured the system was trying to recognize the drive.

I logged in and I noticed that I was not connected to my network. I also noticed the wi-fi symbol blank with an "x" inside it. I opened up the wi-fi preferences and noticed that I had no option to wi-fi at all. It showed that fire-wire, Ethernet, and Bluetooth PAN was not connected but nothing about wi-fi at all. So I disconnected the charger thinking that I only needed it for starting the Mac but then the whole system shutdown.

So now it only starts up with the charger connected and I have no wi-fi. Could the cloning process miss the wi-fi drivers or is it something else? Also what could be the problem with the charger having to be plugged in in order for the Mac to stay alive?

I purchased this laptop back in September/October 2017 refurbished. I've never had a problem with the battery or the charger before I installed the SSD. I also installed the latest version of High Sierra before I cloned the SSD and installed it into the Mac.

This is my school computer and I would like to get it up and running properly before I start class again in late August. If anymore information is needed please feel free to ask.

Thank you.

Solução escolhida

I would start by booting from the old drive first and see if your issues persist.

Cloning is no longer used as it erases the hard drive and you loose the repair partition. Install the system then use Migration Assistant to move your data. The most common problem on this model is the hard drive/ IR cable failure.

Then see if you still have issues.

I reinstalled the old drive and I got wi-fi again. However, I still had to plug in the charger in order for the Mac to turn on. The charger only displays the green light, never the amber. What would cause the battery to not charge?

Download, install and run Coconut Battery and post your results. Maybe we will be able to tell with more information.

It appears as if my battery is non-existent. What would cause it to be like this? Hardware issue? This Mac is not even a year old.

Here is the screenshot of what Coconut has to say. Could something be wrong with the cabling maybe? Like I mentioned before I bought this Mac refurbished and never had a problem with the battery or wifi until after I installed the SSD. I was also careful when I removed the battery cable.

Here is also a screen shot of what the actual system has to say about the power supply.
