No battery power, no charging after replacing battery

MacBook Pro 2010. I replaced the battery with the one I received from ifixit. The computer booted.

Two weeks later, there’s no power. The battery indicator shows no lights. If I connect the power supply, it’s light remains green. With the power supply connected, the machine boots but if I disconnect it, it loses all power. Also, with the power connected, the battery indicator blinks all lights five times when the button is pressed.

The battery indicator icon shows 100% charge but also says replace battery. I’m attaching a coconut battery screenshot.

I performed an SMC reset.

What should I do? Any chance to receive a replacement for the brand new battery I purchased from ifixit?

This just happened to me! I bought a replacement battery from macbookbatteries.com awhile back and I couldn't replace it at first because the screws were stripped. This morning I swapped out the battery and plugged in the power adapter to charge it. When I saw it go from orange to green I powered on my MBP and the indicator showed it was charged 100%

A few minutes later the notice appeared saying the battery was at 2%.

I plugged it in again, and within 10 min the indicator went from orange to green again.

I heard horror stories about buying batteries from Amazon but apparently they're not the only ones to be wary of.

(correction: first version said I got the battery from ifixit, but I was mistaken)

I'm disappointed in this battery and plan to request a replacement.

What OS X are you running and did this start after your last system update? @danj

por

@mayer - I'm running 10.13.4 currently, I haven't updated my systems yet. That's one of this weekends chores.

por

@danj I am only running into problems with machines that have had third party hard drives or batteries installed.

There is the possibility the the MagSafe charging port has lost functionality. Even though it is still able to power in the computer, there could be an issue with it, hence why the battery will not charge. It’s most likely caused by a false load coming from the MagSafe port. Hope this helps!

OK, I’ll try another charger. This one used to work though and there’s no power without the connection. The battery shows as 100% charged when the laptop boots (with charger power).

por

The port I’m taking about is the port on the inside of the computer itself.

This would be way above my qualification

@aaandre - @ellispctech is talking about the comparator logic which compares the voltage between the MagSafe and the Battery it controls the switching of the power between the sources and load.

It seems as the chargers power is routing straight to the main power and you battery is failing you to some degree. What I recommend if you can, try and buy a new receiver for the battery and solder it on the mother board. If you cannot do that then buy a new motherboard and use your old battery.
