Thanks jayeff for the reply, apologies for delay.. All your remarks duly noted and of course appreciated, it did cross my mind that because of the difference in reception , that certain channels were not as strong as others.

By the way the antenna is pointing to Sutton Coldfield here in the midlands (UK) , no set top box, straight application.. Since the past post,! I decided to re-tune the Samsung TV , to attempt a sort of re-set, strangely enough, the main culprit channel, (19) among others, seems quite normal again, ! 'fingers crossed' .

However, poor connections , will still be on my suspect list, and I will get the antenna system checked, some time soon. Thank you again, for your interest , and sound advice.. Best wishes to you and yours.

Hi,

How do you get the TV channel signals, direct via a TV antenna or an input connection via a "box" to an antenna or cable?

If via an antenna have you checked that the existing antenna is in good condition and is pointed in the correct direction with regard to where the TV transmitters are?

Check the signal level for your channels. You may need a new antenna or antenna lead and possibly a masthead amplifier as well if the signal level is too low or on the threshold for some channels but not for others.

If connected via a "box" what make and model number is it? Check its' User guide to see if it has a signal level menu option as well.

This is more than likely due to your aerial, than any other factor. If it is a digital TV, then one of the down sides is that the picture and sound signals a sent separately instead of together like the old analogue units.

So you either need a good indoor digital aerial or a quality outdoor aerial.

Hello, sm_vulus, and to you also jayeff, .Trust it's OK to answer you both in the one post. You both touched on the one and only thing I had in mind, the 'antenna', . But I was a bit puzzled why only the odd channel, and not all channels ?.Since you both pointed to this , then without doubt , at the moment, I will indeed get the antenna connections checked ! Can only assume that winter has caused problems ,

Many thanks to you both for your replies and suggestions Best wishes vin roberts

Hi,

To hopefully answer your question of "...why only the odd channel..."

There may be several factors in play.

As I suggested, check the signal level of all the channels. You may find that the "affected' ones have a lower signal level then the others. This could be caused by things such as that they are being broadcast from a different transmitter than the others and that there may be something in the direct line of sight between it and your antenna reducing the signal level, e.g. a tall building or even a small hill could do it. Your antenna may have been pointed in the direction which gives optimum levels from "all" the transmitters rather than what may be able to be achieved if it was pointed at only the one.

It could also be that the antenna dipoles relating to the particular frequency for the "faulty' channel may not have a good connection with the beam of the antenna etc., and as you correctly stated get the antenna cable connections checked (both ends) as a faulty connection may affect one frequency more than another.

Thanks again jayeff, sorry for the delay in replying. All your suggestions and comments duly noted.Last night I re-tuned the Samsung TV , and strangely enough ALL channels appear to be 'normal' ! However ,I will still suspect a bad connection somewhere in the antenna and feed line (co-ax) and get is checked out,, Many thanks for your helpful advice ,. My best wishes, to you and yours
