Vertical solid color lines on iMac

I give my imac for replacement of the power supply. The repairing shop was not authorized service center. I give them and they break my screen from the edges maybe when trying to open. And I can also see thick vertical line. Is this thick vertical line means my led/lcd display is damaged or not . Or this line can be the sign of some other problem like bad gpu?

I know I could check it using an external monitor but currently, I don't have iMac with me. What do you think?

No need to check they damaged the display! They pried the display off in doing so they snapped the micro connection traces on the glass LCD part. A new screen will be needed no other way to fix this.

If you review the IFIXIT guide we go into great lengths going over the correct tools & techniques needed to lift the display off. I can tell you before we had developed this guide I attempted to open two systems and I killed both displays! So even a person with good Mac repairing skills can damage the display.

Return it to the guy and get him to replace the display or get your money back as you'll need to to pay for the display (at least part of it).

Update (03/28/2018)

Here's the part you'll need: PowerBookMedic - LCD Panel and Front Glass Assembly Apple P/N 661-00200 (aprox. $500 US). Here's the IFIXIT guide: iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Display Replacement to take the current display off and you'll also need the correct tools and replacement tapes: [produto vinculado ausente ou desativado: IF174-005]. I would recommend getting a second tape set just in case ;-}

Thanks bro. Still, he has my iMac. He is admiting he broke the glass but he is not admitting that he broke the display. What should I do. Everyone know he is lying. May be police can help me

He was brutal! Clearly he didn't even try to find out how the screen was affixed before trying to get it off. The chips along the edge tells us that. When I damaged the display it was way back when we just didn't know how with the first models that where glued. I didn't chip it like this guy did! I just failed to release the adhesive fully as I was being careful not to push the knife to deep. It doesn't take much stress to damage it.

Where are you on this blue marble? Here in the US of A you have some recourse, some countries have strong consumer protections, others not.

If he won't fess up you do have a problem. Just tell him he needs to replace the glass as he damaged it! Just so you know you can't replace the glass as its fused to the LCD panel so he has to replace the complete assembly no matter what.

Maybe the best solution here is just get your system back without paying him and get him to sign a document he damaged the glass and will pay for the replacement of the glass. Then pull him in front of a judge to get the money for the replacement screen as he give you a signed document he would pay for it. You'll need to get Apple or Apple authorized service center to replace the screen as you won't be able to do it your self legally. You need an independent party to do the work and have them write up why it was damaged as more proof he messed up.

If you review some of the other questions here you'll find a few damaged displays because the person didn't follow the guides. So you can use them as well as the guides as proof if you need to go to court.
