Why doesn't my phone recognize the SD card in it?

The card is in the tray the only way it can go. Paper side on tray and chip side up.it fits perpendicular to the phone at the bottom of the tray. When I ck storage, SD is grayed out and no date showing. It is the SD card from the previous Blu phone. Contacts and pics are on the SD card.
