Why is there Chinese on my recovery screen.

I had a guy working on my phone, well he wiped it i believe. It boots up and loads some factory stuff. no google stuff or any apps left. so i have been trying to recover whatever this joker did. when i try to put it into recovery mode it flashes factory mode then its chinese from there... I can through randomly pushing keys getn some english to pop up jumbled between the other stuff. i need a fix to get it back to where i can in stall a new custom rom or even stock rom back on it... right now Odin wont find it. computer does and lists it as a MTP but there are no files available.... so any help would be great
