Why are my photos coming out black?

I just recently got the camera as a gift, and I read all the instructions. Got the camera all set up and film loaded. First picture came out great! The rest however kept coming out black. In any lighting with different settings, didn't matter. Changed the batteries just in case and thought maybe it was a bad pack of film. Loaded up a new pack of film and once again, first picture came out great, then the rest black. I never opened the back. I store the camera in a safe place. Never dropped it. So I'm kind of stumped on what's going on. I'm about to give up and have it get returned so the person who bought it for me can have their money back. Anything helps thank you!

Hi

If you are sure that your film pack was not wasted due to exposing it to the sun or something, I would say.... just send your camera to the repair center. I waited for months and searched on many websites for an answer on my camera that was not developing the photos.... but in the end the camera was just now working well. I sent it to the center and got it back like two weeks later. They replaced it with a new one and all is good now. My guarantee was still not due so, no charges other than what it cost me to send the package. Good luck!

Thank you! this has been happening to me a lot lately.

same as min, i got it also from a friend as a gift. the problem is that I'm from Philippines and my friend who bought it from canada. we already reported, they replied but we need to return the product so that we can get another new product. the problem is canada is way too from from the philippines, and for the shipment fee, it will be cost much more than the product. hopefully there's an answer in this website or any website that we can do wiothout returning the product.

Y’ALL!

I had this problem. And I couldn’t find the solution online. It wasn’t the shutter in my case. There is a piece of black tape inside the camera, above the lens, blocking the exposure. Peel it off.

Omg finally a working answer! Thank you so much!

Do you mean inside the camera as in you unscrewed the camera? I'm sorry, I'm confused. I don't know if this would work for when the first picture comes out great and then the rest turn out black.

por

thank you sooooo much you are a life saver!!!!! :)

por

Yeeessss! This worked!! My pictures come out so much brighter with color!! I definitely recommend this!

por

Thanks for this answer! solved my issue!

Not sure why this black tape is there in the first place?!

Edit: after 5 or 6 good pics, now the issue is back. again. black dotted photos. :(

Well.. to be honest I cried a lot because it was my first day having it so I took the first picture and it came out PERFECT then I took my second one like 30 minutes later and it came out black and white we tryed so many stuff and even took the film out but here’s a little recommendation (DO NOT TAKE THE FILM OUT NO MATTER WHAT!) so my stupid self took it out after the 4th black picture and that was it so it was the film so then I changed the film and the it turned out a little black with white dots and then the second one came out Perfect so my suggestion change the film!

So I've been having this problem and I have figured it out. I believer the shutter gets stuck after the first picture is taken. If you open up the film door and close it back up right away, it resets the shutter and takes the photo and prints it right out. If you don't open the door and close it right away, the next photo comes out black. I know it says not to open the door but it does help and the photos come out clear. Just do it in a dark area.

Thank you Dan. Had same prob with Mini Insanx 8 (1st pic comes out perfectly color and then the rest turn out black and white). Tried looking for black tape (that some had mentioned) to take off and that was not the issue here bc didn’t have tape anywhere. Then followed your advice-took pic, immediately went into dark bathroom to reopen up where film is held (knowing full well that it is typically not recommended to reopen that), then shut it again, then (did what another person recommended) readjusted the house, sunny, cloudy setting (basically just moved it around from setting to setting to reload it) then back to house setting and took another pic and it turned out COLORED! Couldn’t believe it worked. Repeated again and 3rd was another color! SUPER ridiculous that we have to do this after each pic but just happy that it’s an option now to have color again. Thank you!!!! 12/2/23

I have this same problem and the camera was brand new just out of the box. I had 3 dark photos with one tiny whit circle in it in all three photos that were taken in different places. I followed the troubleshooting page and turned the brightness level one farther away from the house one and it fixed the problem

I’m pretty sure the pictures that print out take time to dry, correct?

If the picture doesn’t appear on the film after about 20 min, then something might be wrong with the printing or the shutter mechanism.

I had this problem as well. I wasted a whole pack of 10 but the first one and the last one came out coloured for me and I found out that right after taking the photo, try and face it down on a surface. And wait a few minutes. That worked for me, and hopefully works for u :)). Mine is a the mini 9 btw.

It is happening to me too I have tried all the suggestions. I changed the batteries and tried to clean the lens but it did not work. I found out that I just had to adjust the zoom and place the film on a flat surface. 5 minutes later I found a picture with full color! Try adjusting the zoom!

I just found out how. If you open the camera back then take the film out, you will find a shiny black tape. Peel it off. everything is solved.

I have a mini 11 and always had my photos turning black. Then I started thinking about how the lighting could be doing this.

Always take photos where it is not many bright lights and try to stay in the safe place with the same lighting.

On my Mini 9 it appears to me that the iris sometimes gets misaligned when you rotate the exposure wheel (the wheel at the front of the lens with a notch that lines up with icons for indoor, cloudy weather, sunny weather, etc. .) to adjust for the light conditions. The random misalignment of the iris in the lense may explain why you will have properly exposed photos and then the next ones you take are all black. Unfortunately, I dont think there is any real fix to this if you're not handy with disassembly and repair. It is just poor build quality.

I had a same problem, mechanism-wheel on the lens, that choosing different exposure settings, skip one toot, and because that wheel with different exposures inside lens was out of alignment and didn't let enough light to hit film. Simple fix, just dial exposure gear all a way up inside camera. Its black plastic cylindric gear on lens mechanism and choosing wheel on outside of camera all way on first position when closing camera. Basically camera needed simple recalibration. 15 minutes fix. Be careful when you working with open camera, there is condenser that running flash, it hit me, give me little shake on finger :) nothing major and dangerous, just unexpected.

Many of my pictures were coming out black and I figured out what seems to be the problem. At least for me. The lens (or I don't know what it's called) don't come out properly when you just turn your camera on. You need to make sure that they open. I need to help it with my hand to pull an objective out a little bit. So you have to be careful and make sure that they are pulled out properly before you make a photo.

I will try and peel off that black tape too after all I use all my film. Will see if it does something.

And sorry for my english.

Hey everyone, it was the piece of black tape for me! Strange, as I have put many cartridges thru this camera already. Here’s where the hole is located: look on the front of camera above the lens where the two little holes for exposure are located. Now find the back of those holes within the camera body where u put the film cartridge. It’s a piece of black tape on a piece of black plastic so look carefully!
