Can I replace the hard drive with a higher capacity HD?

I have two Dish Network Hopper 2s. Unfortunately when Dish upgraded the UI, the hopper 2 works very slow. I was told by Dish, that I can upgrade to the hopper 3 and the UI works much better. Unfortunately, the hopper 3 only has a 2TB HDD, just like the Hopper 2, but with the Hopper 2, you can have multiple devices that allow greater storage. In my case, I have two of them and therefore I have 4TB storage. The new and improved Hopper 3 also comes with a 2TB HDD. But you can only have one Hopper 3 shared across the home network. If I get a Hopper 3, I would like to upgrade the HDD to a 4 or 6TB HDD and resolve my issue.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi @michaelkaplan

Just wondering if you can add an external 2TB HDD to your Hopper 3 to give you the 4TB that you want.

According to this link the Hopper 3 supports up to 2TB of external storage.

Yes Jayeff, you can, but the way the external HD works, you must manually transfer shows from the internal HD to the external, then when you want to watch a show on the External HD, you must transfer it back to the dvr before watching. Not a good solution.
