No charge light on apple MacBook magsafe and no charge at all

I have a Macbook Pro A1297 17" i5

After water damage a few years ago I got the laptop running perfectly but only on mains power direct. The battery will NOT charge, NO battery will charge in it (I have three).

I gather now it must be circuitry? OR could it just be the MagSafe board?

I still charge the battery via another knackered system as I need a battery since it keeps the times and settings. So the voltage etc is being recognized by the logic board from the battery but the laptop will NOT run from a full battery or charge at all.

Is there a part of the circuitry I can home in on??

I would love to have the charge and run from battery to work again!

Any help appreciated. Kind regards, Simon.

That's a tough situation to be in. In my experience its unlikely the magsafe board. Most of the time its ends up being an issue with the board. This may be as simple has cleaning corrosion on the board that is bridging and shorting some circuitry or it may be more involved where you would have to find the plans for the board, troubleshoot connections by checking continuity in search of failed components. Not to mention that the job becomes a bigger hassle without the proper tools. If you have to the time, patience and bravery, there are a few resources online that can help you get there. iPad Rehab is a company that teaches people how to get started as well as offers repair options.

cheers for the reply, yes, I have kind of accepted this will never be fixed as it was badly waster damaged when I received it - I took it on as a project to fix and keep. I was lucky I got it this far and actually running really well - the motherboard was corroded in a few places which I managed to clean with alcohol and a brush but either something shorted on the charge circuit (as the battery was connected when the spillage occurred or the length of time it was in water actually damaged a track or through hole connection as I know these macbook PCBs are multi-layered.

My macbook will run down a battery too but will not run off it or even acknowledge a battery is there ? but it needs it for the clock and settings....so it looks like whatever the pin out of the battery is , some part is working?

I think the only way to really find out is to know certain voltage points on this logic board to test when on? I have some schematics and I have electronics knowledge but no starting point.
