Which adaptor do I need to connect the SSD to another mac?

Hi

My MacBook Air 13" (Early 2015- A1466 EMC2925) died over night. I haven't taken a backup, so I'm looking for an adaptor, so I can take the SSD out and back it up on another mac before I send it in to be repaired. But I can't figure out which adaptor that fits with the SSD harddisk.

I hope you can help me

Solução escolhida

Here's one option: OWC Envoy Pro Portable, Bus-Powered USB 3.0 Enclosure For Apple Flash SSDs (June 2013-Current Mac Models). Take note this unit won't support a Toshiba drive, you'll need the newer model in that case. This one is on sale at a good price!

Thanks for the quick reply. I just opened the MacBook Air and the SSD drive is a Samsung drive, so it should work right? It doesn't matter that I don't have a USB 3 port right? I sadly only have USB 2 in my iMac.

I found a OWC Envoy Pro at a reasonable price in my own country.

Thanks again

Be sure to get the one Dan said. There are three different ones for the different blades. They can sometimes be found on eBay as people get one for exactly your purpose, use them once then sell them. Which is what you can do.

Meanwhile, I'd ask another question about why your machine died and what you can try to get it back up and running.

If Dans answer solved your problem please accept it so others will be able to use it as a reference.

Hi Mayer

Here in Denmark we have 2 years warranty (I think its called) so I still have 11 months left. But they wanted 160 $ for making a backup, even though it might not be necessary. So i'm thinking no way and doing it myself. ;-)

I don't know why it died it was working in the evening, turned it off and wouldn't turn on in the morning. Won't even accept power.

I was/am going to accept Dans answer as solved, but I didn't know if I should do it before or after I knew for certain that it worked (after buying OWC Envoy Pro). But I can do it now as well if thats how it works.

How do I know if the one I found is the same as the one Dan found?

Here is the one I found, the problem is its in Danish: https://www.computersalg.dk/i/2363712/ow...

SKU: OWCMAU3ENVOYPRO

EAN: 794504793628

Can you help me, please? I dont wanna buy the wrong one.

I'm gonna mark this as I accept the answer, but I don't know for sure because I can't get the device in my country. Atleast not for another month. But the device probably would have worked. Now sadly I will just pay the retailer 160$ to make the backup.

I ended up buying the enclosure from USA, and finally got it today and it works perfectly, so thank you very much. Now I can say without a doubt that this answer helped me and saved me money aswell even though I had to buy the tools to disassemble the MacBook Air and the enclosure to backup the SSD, from overseas. I saved about 50$ and have the tools and the enclosure for another time.
