Cant get out of dfu mode

Ive tried the utility reset and its still in dfu mode. I really dont know much about it, since I bought it at a pawn shop. I cant erase anything on it, since its in dfu mode.

This nifty little trick has stopped all iTunes Error messages dead in their tracks. Give it a try. It worked for me after two days of trying to restore a phone in recovery mode.

Step 1. On your Mac, go to your “Applications” folder.

Step 2. Now navigate to the “Utilities” folder.

Step 3. Launch "Terminal".

Step 4. Type "sudo nano /etc/hosts" (without quotes) and hit return.

Step 5. Enter your password

Step 6. Use the down arrow key to find the “gs.apple.com” entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering “#” in front of the text.

Step 7. Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O.

Step 8. Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X. I found ctrl X didn't exit for me, so Try "return' key after Control O to save and exit.

Step 9. Restore your iDevice.


Step 1. Start –> Programs –> Accessories

Step 2. Run Notepad or WordPad

Step 3. Click “Open..” from File menu.

Step 4. Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc

Step 5. In "files of type:" select all documents

Step 6. Open "hosts"

Step 7. Delete all line that has "gs.apple.com" or something like that

Step 8. Hit Save

Step 9. Restore your device

I wonder if this will work for you. GIve it a try since you got nothing to loose. In Windows, go to Start>(rightclick)My Computer>Manage>Device Manager>USB Controllers.

You might find a little yellow triangle.Stay there.

Open up a file browser, and look for "usbaapl.inf". It should be in your 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE' folder.

Make a note of where that file is, right Click on the caution sign in the device manager, and click 'update driver'.

Use the advanced mode.

Check the box, and tell it to look in your 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE' folder.

It should pop up saying that it found it. You will be asked for a .sys file in the same directory. Show it the way.

Now you've got that driver.

It'll ask you for a different driver. Do the EXACT SAME THING.

It will ask for yet another driver. DO IT AGAIN.

Aee if that makes a difference .

Here is apples troubleshooting page for the second gen ipod shuffle...it sounds to me like a firmware reinstall will be the best thing.

You can try this:

Use iPod Reset Utility to fix the following issues:

  • iPod will not play music, and cannot be restored using iTunes.
  • iPod is not recognized by iTunes, but is visible in My Computer or in Device Manager on a Windows PC, or in Apple System Profiler on a Mac.
  • iPod shuffle (1st generation) is identified as a device in "Recovery mode." iPod shuffle (2nd generation) is identified as a "USB DFU device."

hammad, it is best to ask your own question. Click on the link on the right side of this screen "Ask a question" and give as much detail as possible. Like, what device do you have (which iPod) what happened to it? What have you tried to fix it etc. Right now it looks like you are answering a question and nobody will see that you are looking for an answer. Good Luck.
