0% battery, not charging. Laptop turns off when gaming.

So like 5 months ago my ROG G751JY didnt want to charge to 100% anymore. I didn't like it but never used it without the AC, so I didn't think much of it. So I went away for a week so i disconnected the AC - when I came back the battery was dead. It says "0% available (plugged in, charging). I know these batteries have a short life span, but isn't it weird that it all of a sudden went from about 95% to 0%?

I thought it wasn't really a big deal since I always use it with the AC, but recently when I am gaming the laptop just turns off. I can turn it on right away - so it seems it loses power for half a second or something, which is enough to turn it off.

Seems like my battery serve another purpose than running with no AC. And it also provides extra current during high demand usage like heavy gaming, and also carry my computer through brownouts. In my case this prevents me from actually using the laptop for other things than browsing...

I have tried to uninstall the battery drivers, tried holding the power button on for 60 seconds. Next step is to reset to factory, and reinstall windows 10. Would also like to flash my BIOS, but I guess I can't do that since my battery is at 0%.

Anybody managed to fix this without opening the thing and replacing it with a 100 euro battery?

Thanks

My computer is dead. Cannot charge or will not charge. Don't know if it is the adapter or the battery. What to do from here? Any hope?

Batteries don’t like not being exercised - if you don’t use it, they don’t last very long. You need to replace it now and going forward, at least run it a few times per week in the field until you get to 25% and charge it. Refer to this guide to replace the battery. 41% is probably low for a unused pack - recal it and get the true number and it’s probably closer to 50-60%.

Have you repasted the CPU and GPU? The power issue sounds like a thermal issue, especially if it’s sudden. I’ve picked up many used systems and 100% of the time I’ve cracked the heatsink off at 4-5 years old, the paste is dead or so close I did myself a favor - espeically if it’s been baking itself at 70-80c due to a lack of maintenance. Being a 900 series GPU tells me it’s probably 3-4 years old and that’s about when it’s close to expiring. Change the thermal paste out and see if it helps. Take the motherboard out after changing the battery and you’ll have access to the thermal paste. The cooling system gets beaten up with games, especially with dead thermal paste and a dust blanket.

turn your notification popup on for the charger or watch the charge light.

I suspect you have the same issue I had and others had.

If the charge light goes on/off replace your adapter.

You can further test this by putting the adapter in the freezer for an hour then plug in. It will probably run long enough to charge the battery. Then you can see the popup telling you it is switching on/off.

With a dead battery it will just go off.

did you verify that it is not your charger? Remove the battery and run on AC only. If it runs fine, then replace the battery. If it acts up replace the charger.

It is an Windows default action to put on hibernate mode the laptop when battery run off less than 5% of charge.

I had the same problem. What you have to do is to go through energy options > advance options, click on allow highlighted advice (to allow modify information not available). Afterwards look for Battery options and on this expanded list pick up the "do nothing" under "critical level of battery action".

You have to try hard and for many times due to the hibernate default problem after 4 or 5 seconds.

Good luck,

Hi guys, the problem is problably in power jack input..

so, I "solved" the problem by first applying pressure to the charger input, if I didn't move it, it worked properly, if it did it would turn off again. Work for a few months then failed again. I sent it to the USA to solve the problem, and Asus technical assistance gave the price of 800 $.

A friend of mine said that this problem is kind of common in some Asus notebooks, said he could fix it if I exchanged a 200$ part, but that was not certain, and if the motherboard is of a specific brand (I don't remember the name, sry) would probably fail again after a while.

I solved the problem by buying another notebook from another brand =)
