I have the same problem! I just bought this controller 2 days ago, it charges when plugged into my PS4, but won't charge with an outlet, and I'm using the same exact cord. Use it on wall, doesn't work, plug it directly into the the PS4, it's charging. With that said, it's not my outlet, or box. Because my phone and tablet charge great with the outlet box, and cord I have..?

I am having this same problem with my controller.

Mine wont charge through anything. I've gone through 8 controllers

Ya I bought my PS4 a few years ago because there were a few games that I wanted to play and I just wanna say, aside from the graphics, they are just straight up garbage!

ATTN: SONY, ITS CALLED A BATTERY PACK AND ITS WAAAAY LESS COMPLICATED THAN ALL OF THIS CRAP! I'm sure they do it on purpose tho. so that wen the battery goes bad, rather than buying AA's and going about your day, we get to buy a whole new controller from them. Cuz everyone knows controllers are both easier an cheaper to replace than batteries! Plus those rechargeable batteries can just be Soo hard to put in, I think you need to be a certified electrician or a professor to do it. So best we leave it to the big brainiac pro's down there at Sony! An be thankful for our overpriced crap, okay guys?

por

Yea but still ps4 player will make fun of xbox players for having batteries LOL tryna play some games with my girl and her %#*@ controller wont charge from the wall lol crap sony

The PS3 controller won't charge through a wall charger.

However, you should be able to charge using a standard iPhone or Android charger for a PS4 controller.

Have you tried different cables, and chargers?

You should see a slow pulsating yellow light with a wall charger.

PS4 = USB 2.0 A-Male to Micro B-Male, NOT I-phone

Psiberoptik. I didn't mean the iPhone cable. I mean the brick you plug into the wall and then you plug a USB cable into the brick.

por

I provided the technical info for others looking at this post who otherwise might not know what specifically to look for as per specs, as for the 'brick' try some spray contact cleaner on it and the USB cord, use as directed>>> insert snipet from web:

Yes, use it! I had an expensive usb 3 drive seemingly die on me. Also a usb 2 port on the front of my case no longer works and ports on my usb 3 card having problems. Spray them liberally...

Could be the charger. Without much information, did you try another charger? A different USB cable? My controllers charges fine on my Nintendo Switch port and my phone charger.

I'm thinking your controller is fine simply because it is charging with the PS4…

Update (01/13/2020)

So I ran a couple of tests with two of my older Samsung charger bricks (one from my old S4 and the other from my Note 10.1 (2012 version). Input is .34A and output is 2A on both. Both chargers charged both of my controllers with no issue. I also ran my rapids charger from my S7 (.5A input and 1.67/2A output) and it charged them fine. Now I also put them on my portable battery packs of 1000mA. No issue.

Take it as you will, but I had little issue charging my controllers.

Of course it solves the problem as they are made for that. However, charging stations are big and ugly. I like the dualshock controller but not the various docks. I don't need a huge plastic dongle, I just need electricity to go through a cable. Anyway, I found out that it charges through the USB port of my Macbook as it outputs the good amount of power. Before it was not working because I was using a USB splitter where other devices were taking power so that the controller would not charge.

Mine wont charge anywhere and I've had this issue with 8 controllers! Ive changed the outlet the cable the length of cable. Now I have a 400 dollar brick that I cant play because my controllers wont charge. Doesn't matter if the controller is new and old. Thought it was my ps4 so I got the ps4pro same problem.

If you've got 8 controllers, wouldn't you just have 1 charging via your console while you play with another? I assumed this thread was for those with only one controller, or those that use all controllers at the same time etc..

Anyway I read that the PS4s USB 3.0 ports pump out a max of 800mA (0.8a), so your charger would ideally need to have an output of the standard 5v and between 800mA (0.8a) and 1000mA (1a) to charge sufficiently..

You could probably try a charger with more, say 2a output or more, for quicker charging.. But you might run the risk of burning out or over time.. Anything less than 800mA though and you would burn out the charger and/or bust your DS4 battery over time as it will charge too slowly..

Never use more than 5v either or you'll fry it..

Well I just tried my DS4 with an old HTC charger/cable (output 5v - 1a) and it works a treat..

I hope this helped someone..

The charging port sockets on the wireless controllers are sensitive and easily damaged. I had two stop working at the same time (I suspect the charging cable head was damaging the port). Some people end up buying corded controllers to get around this known issue. You can order replacements on ebay for about $2.00 if you type in “USB charging port socket board PS4”. There are a few different models so it’s helpful to have a look inside the controller beforehand. It’s a quick and easy repair once you have the parts. Both my controllers worked fine afterwards and can charge from any other USB port in the house.

Buy a charging station for your controllers it works!! I had the same problem with my ps4 pro

Just got a ps4 and controller brand new. Could get the controller to charge anywhere either. Plugged into the console or wall was a no go. Oddly what ended up working and is still the only way it will charge is when I plug it into my xbox one.

You have to use a power brick that outputs 0.7 A or 700 mA. Note: a standard brick like one for iPhone will output 1 A and hence will not work

So the reason it charges in like the Xbox or PS4 is because those output the correct A for the controller

Mine doesn’t charge when I plug it into the wall and when i plug it into my ps4 it goes between charging and not charging constantly - even if i angle the cord and leave it there. But if i plug it into my bfs ps4 it charges no problem. This makes me think it’s my literal ps4 but idk if I should buy a replacement charger port or a new controller. I don’t want to waste money so I haven’t done anything yet. If it is my ps4 I just want to wait for the ps5 and get that

Ok.. Thanks for letting us know..

When you say "charging and not charging" do you mean the light goes on and off? Cuz it's supposed to do that.. I'd just leave it in rest mode charging like that overnight and see if it's done the next day..

Make sure you are using a 1 amp charger. I tried charging my controller with both a 2.4 amp as well as a 1 amp charging brick, and it only charged with the 1a option. I hope this solves your problem.

I believe your are right in the 2.4A chargers. I think 2A is the limit as I had no issue with all three Samsung controllers which were all 2A output.

So I had the same problem and I got it solved. I used charger with output 5v , 1a(1000 ma) and the controller didn’t charge. But I tried with a 5v, 800 ma charger and it works. Please try to see the infos of your new charger in the surface of it and determine if it is compatible.

I had the same problem and some dude on here said that if too much power is going out then it will not charge, so I got a few different adapters and choose the one with the least output 5v=750mA and it worked! I’ve been struggling for a while now and it was just that simple.

I just found out that the controller can only handle 8W so any charger above that will not charge the controller, so I went and a naught a standard android 8W cable and it worked perfectly fine on my wall outlet… Hope this was helpful

Press the PS button to be sure it’s not charging but the orange light isn’t flashing. I thought I had the same problem but it turned out the controller was charging, but not flashing like it did when I docked it to the system.

The PS4 controller takes in 5V 0.8A. The USB port on the PS4 is 5V 0.9A which is ok for the controller. I use a 5V 0.55A charger (for an old folding cellphone) and it charges correctly the controller. I tried twice to charge the PS4 controller with an iPhone white block wall to USB charger, which is 5V 1A, and both times I had troubles. I read here and there that the controller of some people are fine with 5V 1A and even 5V 2.4A chargers, lucky them. It happens that my controller does not seem to like higher amp than 0.9A. So, for my controller it seems that a 5V charger between 0.55A and 0.9A is what it likes. If your controller is as capricious, then you should go for a charger between 0.55A and 0.9A and the iPhone 5V 1A charger will not work. I hope this helps. In the end, I am still very intrigued by the fact that some people are fine with >0.9A while mine is not fine with >0.9A. In any case, this is very confusing.

Yes. I found that I can charge it with the USB port of my Macbook Pro 13" 2014. Which is normal because the USB port outputs 5V 0.5A. Also, to be sure that it is charging (with the yellow light glowing up and down) it is important to disconnect the controller from bluetooth, otherwise the light will be blue and the bluetooth will drain what the USB outputs.

So, I used two of my apple wall adapters and they didn’t work maybe because of the output amps.

Once I used my Samsung 2A charger, it worked! Hopefully this helps

Dunno if anybody has gotten a definitive answer here, but I feel my two sense will put some perspective on this.

Someone mentioned the Amps that their power bricks put out and I would believe that would be the crux of the issue. I would definitely do a quick chord swap just to double check, but my Netgear multi-usb charger is rated for 2.4a output on both ports and that doesn’t work. I plugged in my old amazon basic charger that is rated at 1a of output and there is no issues at all.

A quick way to test if your cord is bunk is by trying it on your PC’s / PS4 usb ports first and seeing if that works. If it does than I would guess it’d be the box that is the issue. Try just using a lower amperage box in general and that might just do the trick because it did for me.

In my case, there was no light on dual shock. It was dead. So I unscrew the back 4 little screws and found the issue… the reset button is a little plastic piece that hits the board of the control. It was tilted down so everytime, it was touching the board so it was like in reset mode all time. This made it not to charge and appeart to be dead. I just tilted it upward carefully and the control started acting normal. I gues someone just hitted really bad on the reset hole that it bended the button down permanently. This is how I fixed mine and I hope it helps you if nothing else have worked so far.

I found a box that works but only this one will work every other box I’ve used doesn't work.

It is 5V 1A the iPhone 5V 1A does not work however the Amazon 5V 1A does. Idk why, but I’m pretty sure it’s gotta be something else both have the same input and output.

Both work with charging my headsets but only 1 (the Amazon labeled dock) will charge my controller
