Why my wifi network speed is slow on Samsung Galaxy J5?

My samsung galaxy J5 has a problem with wifi. My connection is 30 Mbps. But i am getting only 4 Mbps on the device(speedtested). All other wireless devices are working fine on 2.4ghz but only the J5 has this problem. I wiped cache partition and also reset the device couple of times. I have tried changing router channels and resetting the router also. My router is tplink archer c60 ac 1350Mbps dual band. The J5 only supports 2.4 ghz band.

Same issue with my J5 2016: initially I didn't manage to get speed higher than 4Mbps by wifi. Wifi router used is TPLink WR940N and ISP provides up to 300Mbps.

Both router and mobile comply with wifi standards 802.1b/g/n. 802.11n allows the highest speed, in the range 72Mbps - 600Mbps depending on NIC of each device, if channel bonding (two channels together for more band), MIMO (more antennas), etc. If you click on your current wifi connection on J5/2016 you will see that net speed of 72Mbps (phone built-in capabilities) .

On router side you must setup the highest power, use 40mhz (bonding). But check first situation of wifi signals from neighbourhood (interferences leading to lower speeds). Download a free app from MPlay like wifi analyzer. The app will show you what is freest channel for your net. Then I setup the router on that channel (chosen 20Mhz channel as 2.4Ghz band at my home is quite crowded and 40Mhz would't help), setup router on protocol 802.11n. Now I have constantly speeds >10Mbps...

I also have the same problem with my tp-link archer C7. I too can only reach 4 Mbps with my J5 (2016). I don't know how to solve this problem, so I have installed my old router dlink dir-655 again. With that router I reach 37 Mbps. I have a 100/10 Mbps connection.

Could it be a tp-link archer problem? Anyway, I will use my tp-link archer C7 later, when I buy a new smartphone which will be an ac-smartphone.

I think the problem is with J5. I get full speed if i turn on flight/airplane mode on. So it's definitely a phone issue.

You are probably right. I used my old Samsung Galaxy S3 with the tp-link archer C7 a couple of days ago. No problems at all. Download at 33 Mbps! Thanks for the info about flight/airplane mode. I will try that.

Yeah but using airplane mode is not a solution. So this doesn't solve the problem.

You're right. It doesn't. Never found a solution for the J5(2016). Now I have a Samsung s7 edge. What a difference! On 2.4 GHz download at 95 Mbit/s. On 5 GHz download at 118 Mbit/s. Works great with my Archer c7. Recommend you to buy an ac phone instead of the J5(2016).

The only "solution" to the slow wifi on J5(2016) was to change router. My J5(2016) hit 37 Mbit/s with the Dlink DIR-655 as I stated last year. If any of you guys find a real solution out there, please post it here! Personally I think it is a hardware component problem in the J5(2016). It is a budget smartphone.

We recently got a new VM router and I've been having the same problem with my SM-J500FN (2015): Not exceeding download speeds more than 4 Mbps.

Nothing seemed to change the speed. Wipe cache partition only solved it just for about a minute. Keeping the phone in flight mode with Wi-Fi on does solve this problem but you won't be able to take/make any calls.

Fiddling around with the phone, I decided to turn Android Beam off to see if that would change anything. After that I did a speed test and got a stable 56 Mbps. This seemed to do the trick for me. It hasn't dropped back to 4 mbps since. I did the same thing on my gf's J5 (same model, same problem) and it fixed it as well.

Go to: Settings 》 NYC and payment 》 Android Beam

Now, if NYC is turned off turn it on just to switch Android Beam off.

I don't know what makes Android Beam interfere with Wi-Fi reception on the J5 but someone might be able to explain.

Not sure but this may help with the J5 (2016) too. It's worth a try.

Thank you for the info about turning Android Beam off. I tried it on my J5(2016) but unfortunately it did not work so well. I still get around 4 Mbit/s when I speedtest it. There were randomly a couple of times I got higher speed, but 95 % of the tests resulted with around 4 Mbit/s.

I think I will switch on flightmode again and continue to use it as a minipad.

My samsung tab 3 was getting 4mb with my labtop getting 27mb. I disabled the “location” option in the tab 3 and speed went to 17 mb.

I have a Samsung A30s, same issue of my phone giving me half the internet speed I am supposed to get, all other devices in the house could cap at max speed... Tried all the advice above and only disabling my location settings worked.

I am using samsung galaxy tab A8, I am also facing same issue. getting fast net if i connect to my mobile net but if i connect to my 50mbps WiFi, it not even opening web page ,it is very slow and also changed internet provider but same issue new inter net provider. i have reset app so many times still facing same issue. if turned off and ON airplane mode still same issue no progress. can any one help me to fix this issue.
