Stuck on Start up Apple

I recently updated to Sierra and have had endless troubles with programms hanging and constantly shutting down.

Last week my macbook gave up totally and now when switched on all I see is the Apple logo with the progress bar in full dark grey.

I have been through step for step safe mode, fsck - fy mode, tried the Control +T mode to NO avail.

Safe mode gave me an all clear that device is ok.

Today i got diskOs2: I/O error. :-(

does anyone have any advice? I have very important information on the harddrive let alone all the apps i have installed for work.

I was unable to back up from time machine as the computer is blocked by an administrator.

Disk utility also gave an all clear on all hardware.

The best option here is to use a second Mac and then use Target Disk Mode to copy off your stuff before you go any farther in trying to re-install the OS and apps.

A for fixing things: You'll need to wipe the drive down and re-install your OS. Due to the age of your system you need to run the OS installer either using the second Mac in target disk mode or setup a USB thumb drive as a bootable OS installer following this guide: How to make a bootable OS X 10.11 El Capitan installer drive. Remember your system will only go up to OS-X 10.11.x 'El Capitan'

You may end up needing a new drive here. This system only has a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) interface so the replacement drive needs to be a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) drive. Make sure to review the drives specs sheet that it offers support for SATA II many drives today only offer SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) support.

Alright, so where I live I can not get hold of the cables mentioned (firwire) is there another option? Could I remove hard drive and plug it into another device?

Do you have a second Mac systems and does it have FireWire connection? You can still get the cable online Staples - 9 Pin/9 Pin FireWire 800 Cable

Yes, you could also take the drive out and then use the second Mac to backup & prep the drive using this cable: Startech 2.5" SATA to USB adapter. Just remember it must be a Mac in order for the installer to work.

Or, just setup a USB drive as easiest way from a second Mac.

I do have a second mac exactly the same. I have tried connecting them with ether net cable but it doesn't seem to work. Going to try remove and then back up and then reset.

I have landed up on a screen with disc utility and i have started first aid on hard drives, so far all seem to be OK. There are Internal discs and image discs? What is the difference.

Hello,

If I were you I would remove the HDD and transfer my data somewhere else, After the Data is backed up you can try the following:

Start computer pressing cmd + R to go to recovery and clean install the OS again.

This link may help.

Sadly, this model does not offer Internet recovery and given the problems with the drive I don't think the hidden recovery partition install will be of much use here, that is if its present.
