Cracked Touchscreen Replacement Possibility

Hi Everyone,

In a bind; how difficult is it to replace the touchscreen in my HP-15bk117cl laptop/convertible tablet?

Are there any tutorials on how to repair? I've done a cursory search; nothing jumps out at me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a graduate student currently enrolled in courses :(

Regards,

Maitai

maitaioneone your numbers come back as a HP Pavilion 15.6" with touchscreen. In that case this service manual should work for you.

Oldturkey03,

Thank you for your response. I'm not so sure this is the correct manual, because the computer does not have a removable battery or even an access panel for RAM upgrade - it's one solid case on the underside, with screws to remove it.

Have any other ideas? Thanks in advance,

Maitai

This manualclaims to be for the HP Pavilion x360 Convertible PC (model numbers 15-bk100 through 15-bk199) See if this is closer to what you need.

Thank you Oldturkey03, that's the one.

I've got tools and have been into a Samsung Galaxy to replace the touchscreen on that before. Didn't work out too well. Is this a similar level of difficulty to replace this particular touchscreen? I'd like to think I can do it...but if it has a lot of delicate moves, perhaps it's not the best way for me to go. Please advise - and thank you so much for your help.

Kind regards,

Maitai

maitaioneone I am sure that with the right preparations you can do it. Just take your time and read a couple of times through the manual. Be organized and get all your tools together before you start. Keep an uncluttered work space and you can do it! Cellphones and small tablets are a bit trickier due to excessive glue and smaller size.

Oldturkey03,

Thank you so much for clarifying the difference between laptops and phones/tablets...I really appreciate your encouragement as well. I'm moving forward with purchasing a replacement screen - and I have one final question:

The outermost screen is cracked, but the display is fine. Nothing at all wrong with the graphics, etc. Am I looking at only replacing the touchscreen, or the display too? I don't know enough about the machine to know whether or not the two are one and the same, but because the graphics are rendering fine, I thought I'd ask whether I need to replace the touchscreen only, or the touchscreen and the display as well (assuming they are two separate components)?

Many, many thanks, Oldturkey, People like you are gold in these forums.

Kind regards,

Maitai

Hi Oldturkey03,

I have some fabulous news, and it will allow me to forego repair this time around. I had to do some shopping at Sam's Club today, so I decided to ask about the laptop I bought from them - and even though it was past the 90 day warranty, I asked if they would accept it as a return...the answer I got stunned me.

They said they would accept it as a return, and that I could pick out any other laptop in place of it! I guess this just goes back to the old adage of, "If you don't know, just ask."

Anyway, I want to thank you very much for following my issue and providing the great input you did during our exchanges. You're doing a great thing here, and just know that your good work is very much appreciated. Take good care.

Kind regards,

Maitai
