How to do system image of disk that's going bad to new disk?

The hard drive in my Samsung is starting to make weird noises. I want to do a system image (or somethign similar) of this disk, buy a new disk drive (any suggestions for a good disk drive are welcome), and then install the new disk and copy everything over to the new disk. . I am hoping this process will help me not having to install windows and other softwares all over again. I would appreciate any and all guidance. Thank you

It would be better to load the OS fresh on the new drive than to copy from one that may be failing. At this point, you should not turn on the hard drive until the new one has been set up with fresh OS and copy only data. The performance will be better this way once you get everything installed.

The best time to create an image is shortly after setting up a fresh image with the apps installed and the updates current. You can find different imaging apps to help create an ISO that you can use to restore after problems like failing hard drive. Making an image of an OS that has a failing drive will faithfully reproduce the bad disk reads.

Solução escolhida

1) first leave the original hard drive in the computer

2) connect your new one via USB

3) install Macrium Reflect free to the old hard drive

4) run Macrium Reflect, and clone to the new one

5) swap out the old for the new
