Device with no Touch ID is draining super fast!

Ok so have had 2 customers this past month who have a 5s 16GB that have had a home button replacement therefore has no Touch ID.

The battery was draining super fast on both devices, literally 3-4 hours from 100% to switch off even on stand by mode.

I have replaced batteries on both devices but it does not solve the issue.

Leading me to believe that it is something to do with the Touch ID not being active.

It is switched off in settings as it's unable to setup a finger on it.

Have tried obvious resets and used genuine battery replacements

Any ideas or has anyone seen this before?

For other people coming to this thread: I had a similar problem: 3rd party home button and battery emptying in 8hrs on standby. The person who replaced the home button took the screen off and the A9 (black square towards the top of the phone) was too hot to touch, even on standby. The fix was to get a new 3rd party home button from a "different factory". Right now the phone has been on standby for 16 hours and the battery is still at around 90%.

Hi,

Nothing to do with home button replacements and no Touch ID.

They have more than likely used cheap cables or charged in car, damaging the tristar chip, this causes extreme battery drain, you would need someone who can do microsoldering to replace the tristar chip. :-)

Brand new iphone SE and touch ID failed after 2 months. Immediately after touch ID failed, battery started to drain very fast! Under warranty so new one is on the way, but only thing that went wrong was the touch ID. Tried low power mode -- didn't matter. Continues to drain at record pace. Google search will show this is a VERY common side effect of the touch ID failure. Apparently phone keeps trying regardless of attempts to stop it.

It's still do to with tristar chip, a lot of people use cheap cables and think it won't effect the phone, when in fact it causes damage, causing extreme battery drain.

por

Unless home button was shorting something and causing faster battery drain, but you would notice the home button getting very hot if it was shorted badly (like with liquid damage)

You made it Ged! Happy 10K!!

I have the same issue. Touch ID not working, battery draining really quick on my iPhone 6 Plus and YES my home button is getting hot so I believe its some kind of shorting. Is it still the tristar chip? How do i troubleshoot? TIA!

After replacing the original Home Button with a 3rd party one my iPhone drained its battery in 4-8hrs. I connected it to my macbook and opened the console. It would constantly show errors belonging to AppleMesaSEPDriver / biometrick sensor until the battery was empty. I went to the repair shop and they tried 3 different 3rd party homebuttons. ONLY the third one worked, the two others showed the errors. The working one still shows an error that touchID is not working, but ONLY one error - not constantly 100k errors until the battery is empty :) So if you got this don’t get talked into changing the battery - connect to the console, look up the error and change the home button! If your repair shop doesnt find a working home button, disconnect the home button completely and go with assistive touch (digital home button). It’s better than draining your battery. good luck.

I’m soffering the same Problem, when i turn off screen battery drain start. The problem si born when i changed backlight on my IP7+, unfortunally I cut home button flex and so I left it disconnected.

por

Solved, the sealing of screen flex was uncovered, and probably there was a short. Put some insulating film on it and Now battery drain in stanby mode stopped.

Hi my touch id for the iphone 6 failed too and i had erratic battery drain, got the battery repalced and yet no change, the battery kept dying fast, took it to the Apple service centre and they didnt know what the issue was. They told me to replace the phone but i thought ill disconnect the touch id cable on the top right inside the phone, did that and the stand by drain stopped. The home button cant be used but i got assistive touch. You could try this too if you dont want to buy a new phone.
