So I open my camera app and the main cam works fine but the front cam does not initialize and freezes the app and you cannot flip back to the rear cam. You must close the cam app and reopen to use rear cam again. The only work that I have done to the phone is battery replacement. Have not changed the screen nor even opened the front of the device at all. Please help...

This does sound like a hardware thing. Where your front camera has gotten old and doesn't work anymore. Before doing that, I'm wondering how much free memory you have on that phone...
