"Battery information will be available after using iPhone for a few.."

Since I replaced my battery, about 3 weeks ago, my iPhone doesn't show me battery usage stats when I go to settings=>Battery=>Battery Usage, but it only shows me "Battery information will be available after using iPhone for a few minutes".

I made all the software operations to have it fixed, such as battery recalibration, hard reset, reset all the settings, total reset and back up it, reset in DFU mode.. nothing ever works.

What does this could be caused by? I followed the iFixit guide very strictly and battery was working perfectly execept for this message, but I was wondering if it could be due to a collateral damage to something. I investigated so far by forums and repairers and I have my iPhone reopened: everything was fine, according to them, except for a small hollow on the logic board, nearby the battery connector, probably caused by the pressure I did for extracting the battery. I haven't experienced other kind of malfunctions, yet; my iPhone is working fine and this is the only thing that makes me worry. The repairer however said this would have turn in a bigger matter if I have really damaged it, such as a deeper malfunction. Do you think I could have damaged irreversibly my iPhone's battery connector or logic board? Is there a way to ensure I didn't do nothing to my inner components? Is the message "Battery information will be available after using iPhone for a few minutes" a familiar issue to anyone here? Do you know how to fix it? Please help me if you can, I'm quite desperate.

Update (04/22/2017)

Adjournment: I bought an iPhone 6s in the least effort to fix the problem.

I made a reset and a back up and then I moved everything onto my new iphone. And what's the result?

The issue remains, most probably because of the software. Guess that the matter was part of the software and I was asking about what could have originated it, but it doesn't appear to fix even in an original new iPhone with an original new battery. I don't know what to do know, but, given that I'M NOT restoring it as a new one because I won't like to lose my data, I think I would get used to it.

Of course, it's strange and look like a spent my time and my money uselessly, but perhaps it could be useful to someone else know that it would depend by a software issue rather than a hardware one (both my sister and my father had the same replacement on iPhone 5s and 6 and are not experiencing any problems).

Strange world. :(

This happened to me as well. It started working again about 12 hours after I first noticed the problem. Hope this helps.

Mh, you mean after a usage of 12 hours or about 12 hours after you kept the phone turned off or either?

Anyway, thank you.

The first thing to consider is that the battery is low quality and has a defective gas gauge chip on it.

However, I can't not bring up the elephant in the room..."everything was fine, according to them, except for a small hollow on the logic board, nearby the battery connector, probably caused by the pressure I did for extracting the battery. "

That doesn't sound fine to me. An iPhone logic board has ~10 layers of copper traces in a board that is 0.7mm thick. Perhaps it is fine but it doesn't take much to damage a logic board. Can you post a picture of this?

It's difficult to me, but I'll try. Anyway, it appears he pried on the A8 processor which presents that hollow, not on the logic board. How does it sounds? Worse?

You can use 3uTools to test your battery. There are other tools as well that do this. They all work the same, they take the data directly from the battery itself so you don't have to worry about the quality of the data itself.

Holes, hollows, CPU...those are words you do not want to hear in the same sentence. Perhaps it is just a translation issue. That said, your phone seems to work fine otherwsie so it probably isn't a big deal. Can you take a good photo and post it to your question?

But as I and a few others have said, change your battery first with a good quality replacement (ifixit) or a known-good battery.

Sounds like he pried on the battery, on the logic board side

On the processor, to be exact.

Just put yourself out of this misery and try another battery or the old one back.

If you can see the battery percentage with a different battery (the old one or one from a different supplier! I highly advise you to use the ones sold on iFixit.com) then you will know that the battery you first installed is bad and will eventually cause your iPhone to start boot looping (restarting non stop for short or long periods of time, depending on some factors).

If a different battery does not cause any change, you may have damaged your gas gauge line on the board. Congratulations, because that's a hard one to pull on an iPhone 6.

It would help if you take a high-resolution picture of the damaged area and post it in your original post/question.

Geez.. Guess I'm in trouble. Well.. Is there any way to establish if it's broken or not? I mean, I knew about some software, such as IBackupbot, that might tell me if my inner parts are broken or, better, if there are any hardware errors by a deep scanning. Is it proficient? Does anyone knows if it might guarantee me a good scan, true to its results? Please, help me while you can.

I've tried a hard reset, a DFU reset and made some recalibration but, since now, nothing seems changing. Anyway, from what I see from the various pics of the inner components of the iphone's motherboard, the hollow/ the damage is not located over the motherboard, but over the processor A8!! So, that could hint that, fortunately, that's not my case, could it?

Well that's a lot of dancing around for a case of bad battery. Until you try a new known good one, or the old one back, to rule out bad battery, don't expect anymore help from me.

I thought I've told that I've changed already two batteries and they were both working, because the technician who made the reparation made me see and try them on his phone before giving me a copy of his battery. He also tried to replace my battery with an original one taken from a new iPhone (he is a seller of Iphone) and I still got that message. I was just asking you if there could a likely and tested connection between a mechanical damage on the proccesor and the capability of the Iphone of calculating battery status with percentages per app. The phone is working fine on the other aspects. Battery lasts, I'm not experiencing any strange issue or slowdown. It's just this.

I've also download the app called "Phone Doctor" and made a deep scanning, but it finds everything it's ok. So, I'm just asking you if you know about a likely connection with an hardware or software problem and the issue I am going through, if you please don't mind answering this. Thank you and sorry for bothering. :(

por

Ok so this is not an issue of battery, not of software since you restored from DFU.

Next is take a picture of what you think the damage is and post it.

I am not bothered and we like to help, but we need feedback for our questions to be able to move forward.

por

Yep, I'll do it in the next day. It's not so easy by means, because I have to find once again the technician and ask him to open my phone. I'll post the result after taking a pic! :)

You could try battery calibration reset?!!

Use phone till it drains completely!

When u place phone into charge hold down the on/off button and the home button as if u wish to enter DFU mode! While in that mode let it fully charge!

After its fully charged hold down on/off to turn fully off the press on button let go of on button immediately and see when it turns on if it resetted the battery.

Mmh, I'll try, but last time I made a DFU mode reset and than a back up and nothing changed. It seems you're proposing me something different, don't you? Well, I'll try! :)

I'm having exactly the same problem after changing the battery on an iPhone 6.

Everything seems fine with duration but not battery usage information is displayed. I also tried to check with the Xcode logs to check that but nothing meaningful.

I thought it was the battery but since you replace it by an original one, I think is software related someway. Maybe corrupted database...

Yep, it might be. I thought it too. My last try would be a total reset as a new device and then I'll realize if it's something related to the battery or to the software itself.

por

I did it unintentionally as my backup was corrupted( I mean configure it as a new device).

No changes.

Hello,

I think I know what the problem could be. The capacity of the new battery is different than the original. In my case the battery is 1900 mah vs 1810 of the original. Could you check that in your case?

Cheers!

It could be, even though there is no certain way to make sure of it because the apps I use, detects me two differents results. Any clou of what can I use instead to fin the amperage?

No, I can't but I had it opened and reviewed by a technician who said it should be not influential on the phone itself or I would have realized in a worse way. The phone is working well apart for that and I do not know if it depends by the software because it seemed to happen the same way to my iPhone 5 (it came out with the same warning), after I had it adjourned at iOS 10.2. The point is that now that iOS 10.2.1 is out I updated it and the iPhone 6 still shows this problem, while it's fixed on iPhone 5. How could it be? What should be done?

Prior to having the battery on my iphone6 replaced on April 12, I also had the screen replaced on March 12. These were done at the same local Ifixit shop. I am not blaming them for this problem without further evidence, but it does seem like a strange coincidence. Now this is the first time I've experienced either issue since my first iPhone in 2008. I am awaiting the new iPhone model later this year and will upgrade then.

I realise it's a pretty old post, but...

Had the same issue on my business iPhone 5s, obviously never tampered or opened and less than a year old.

Also noticed at the same time that the battery was draining pretty fast - like going from around 25% down to 3% in a couple of hours *WITHOUT* touching the phone or using it for anything at all!

At the same time, I noticed wifi kept disconnecting after a few mins or even seconds and would revert to 4G mobile data signal instead.

Tried various suggestions, including closing all apps, turning off battery percentage, hard-restarting the phone (power+home button for 7secs), and then even switching off all signal and switching to airplane mode for the rest of the night. In the morning, no change, it was exactly the same.

But then I set my home wifi to "forget network", and reconnected but also reset the DNS setting from OpenDNS to just 1 dns ip; and magically, it was working fine again. The battery drain was also fine, and after recharging from a dead battery, and having only used the phone for a 10min phone call in the last 9 hours, it's down only 2% - so back to normal.

It's either the fact the phone kept trying to search wifi signals constantly, or (I think) perhaps nsa/gov surveillance or some sort of hidden spyware app! :)

I have the same problem on my iphone 6s+. Can I know the details on how to reset the DNS setting as you mentioned?? Please help me......Thanks!

por

Hi Jyuan,

Unless you've manually changed the DNS settings in the past, this probably won't help...

but you can take a look at the DNS settings by pressing the "i" icon next to the wifi name (Settings -> Wi-Fi).

Although I haven't had the same problem with the battery usage not displaying, but yesterday my phone battery started draining super-fast again, going from ~20% at night down to 3% when I woke in the morning; and when I attempted to use it, it switched off.

I don't have many apps installed as its a business phone, so the only other thing I can think of is that since I have a hidden wifi SSID, iOS 10 doesn't like it and keeps disconnecting, after which is starts scanning through-out the night?

I have now unhidden my WiFi ssid as recommended by Apple, so I'll monitor how it goes. But I'm sure even with wifi disconnected, and it scanning occasionally, Apple wouldn't make it so inefficient that it would drain the battery that quickly?

Otherwise I'm suspicious of remotely installed NSA/Gov spyware :)
