A family of cotton tailed rabbits have moved onto my property and I like having them around. I'm somewhat concerned that they may go hungry or thirsty during the upcoming winter. Should I set out anything for them or just let nature run its course? I really don't know what rabbits eat outside of what Bugs Bunny eats. Any knowledgable advice?

Mayer, I live in a small city and also have wild rabbits running around, they have stuck around for years with out me feeding them. From all the documentaries, etc that I have watched over the years, it is best for wild animals to be self sufficient to survive in the wild. God forbid anything would happen to you, but if the rabbits got use to you feeding them especially the young and for some reason you were not able to continue there is a chance they have not learnt to survive with out your generosity. I do wonder though, if maybe just once a week would be OK to have a treat set out for them lettuce, cabbage, hay,carrots, beet tops or rabbit pellets. Hopefully other will have more info. to share.

Maybe a small bag of rabbit pellets (which I not thought of) would be in order. Maybe plant some winter cabbage ;-) Thanks for the suggestions!
@mayer ,No problem, Good luck with the rabbit farm :-)))) about 3 weeks ago I was out in the yard and it was funny as heck 2 rabbits were having a skirmish (boxing each other) had not seen that before.

@lpfaff1 +12 is the norm +2 or any other integer can appear as a result of the 200 max points in a 24 hrs period (not a 24hr day). So max point accumulation for any given 24hrs you can always only be 200. For example, you have 198 points and I mark your answer as having helped, you will only accumulate +2. If you then get another "helped" within that period you get no additional points until you are below 200. We are always thinking of it as a day from 0001am to 2359pm but iFixit had changed the accumulation a couple of years ago to a 24hr period. Mayer,
I live in a rural area, and have more rabbits, deer, and squirrels on my property than I care to mention! I don't feed them at all, and yet they're still plentiful. If you start feeding them, you may experience a population explosion of the furred kind.
If you choose to feed them, plant a garden you care nothing about as far as harvesting any of the produce.. They'll love you for it, and will never leave your side. :)
