If your Kindle displays the message: "Repair Needed - Your Kindle Needs Repair - Please contact Kindle Customer Service", try doing the following:

1.) Connect the Kindle to a computer using a USB-cable.

2.) Create an empty file in the kindle's root directory called DO_FACTORY_RESTORE (save the created file without any file extension).

3.) Safely disconnect the reader from your computer.

4.) Reboot your device by holding the power button.

I also just got the Repair Code: 0 and BATTERY INVALID: -22 on my 10th generation Kindle Paperwhite. Warranty ended one year ago. I received the same advice for both Windows and Mac:

Windows:

Connect the Kindle to a computer via a USB cable. Open the file explorer (folder icon) and click This PC and open the Kindle drive. Create an empty text document file in the Kindle main folder called DO_FACTORY_RESTORE by right-clicking and selecting New > Text Document. Click on the Start menu (Windows icon). Type File Explorer Options in the Search Bar and select it. Click the View tab and uncheck Hide extensions for known files under the Advance Settings section. Click Apply > OK. Return to the Kindle primary folder and delete the extension .txt from the DO_FACTORY_RESTORE file name. Close the Kindle window. Eject the device safely. It should be in the task bar in Windows. Right click on the Kindle icon and click Safely Remove Hardware, click on it and select the Kindle. Unplug the Kindle and restart the device by holding the Power button for 40s.

Mac (in addition to using Terminal):

Connect the Kindle to a computer via a USB cable. Open the terminal by going to Finder > Applications > Utilities > Terminal. The terminal will open with the Mac's name followed by a $ or % symbol. After the symbol, type touch DO_FACTORY_RESTORE, and then press enter. Note: The terminal won't provide any response so move to the next step. Search for the file named "DO_FACTORY_RESTORE" by clicking the search icon (magnifying glass) on the upper-right corner. Once you find the file, copy it to the Kindle primary folder. Eject the Kindle from the computer by selecting the device and eject, then choosing File > Eject or hitting Command + E. Unplug the Kindle and restart the device by holding the Power button for 40s.

However, neither Mac or Windows computers found the Kindle. The rep said I was out of luck and gave me a 15% off future Kindle device. :(

Hi, I had the same problem. Reopening and correcting the battery cable connection fixed the problem. Kindle started to work again. So probably it can be caused by some connection error, short circuit etc. Now kindle is working fine again.
