digitizer working 1 sec and the next completely unresposive!

Nothing happened, it wasnt dropped, tapped hard, it wasnt even moving. i was playing pool with it on my lap and it was working fine (like it has since the day i bought it) and it just became completly unresponsive. Everything else works fine -home button, volume, power button, wifi, bluetooth, everything but digitizer. Its never been down, dropped or opened. I have no clue whats going on or what to do. I have done all the normal things like reboot and restore and still nothing.

Has anybody ever heard of or had this happen?

HELP

It did come back to life today and has not gone back out yet. Do you know if those chips can be replaced and what kinda $ i have to spend? It seems really strange to me that it would just fail. I havnt found anything online about chips just failing whithout reason.

im a complete Apple person and own or have owned every product they have made all the way back to the Mac Classic II and I have never had any major issues until this Ipad.

I guess ill just wait and see what happens.

Thanx for the reply.

Hi

Possible issue on your mainboard

http://www.techinsights.com/uploadedImag...

Either Broadcom BCM5973A either BCM5974.

It is interesting to see if your touch screen will again temporary revive . If it's one of these chip I guess it is possible, but less & less until the touch screen remains permanently unresponsive.

Every chip that fails has a reason. The problem is that they cannot really speak and tell you why they are about to die. Apple makes reliable devices, but issues can occur. Tablets use only passive cooling methods when I-Macs, laptops use active/passive cooling equipment. This can explain that in some way. If you look on the forum you will notice for example that not starting / not recognized Ipads /Iphones are quiet frequent due to a U2 chip (a1680 / A1610)frequent issue.

I admit that touch screen Broadcom issues are pretty rare compared to the above mentioned issue. I had some months ago An Ipad air That had a Touch screen Issue (not responsive at all). I really suspected that it was coming from one of these 2 Broadcom chip , but before I attempted to try a repair (these chips are not expensive at all , but the operation to remove them from the main board is very tricky) I had the opportunity to use most parts to repair 2 Ipads Air so it was salvaged. Nevertheless I keep the main board in reserve. Will see in a future.

My opinion in your case is that you are right : keep your Ipad as this,as it looks working now and see what happens. If this re-occur write some info there.

Good luck
