I power up my hp envy 20 touch smart pc and the screen still remain black with no display on the background
But my HP Envy 20 touch smart pc has no place i can connect an external screen to check. its has six (6) USB ports, LAN port, SD Card slot. What do i do to test for the external screen

Try connecting an external monitor to the unit and see if a screen come up on it. If it does check the computers video settings to see if somehow the internal monitor had been turned off or disabled. If it was fix the issue. If an external monitor doesn't come up then your internal video might be bad. Next try a LIVE Linux CD and see if the screen come up using it. If Linux works then you still might have a video driver issue. Try to roll back your operating system to the last known good session if possible.

So there is no HDMI output, or any vga? Then try to see if there is a Function key on the keyboard with a symbol of a monitor, if there is try pressing it while holding the CTR L key or the ALT key.
