Half screen darker than other

Bear in mind this doesn't have to do with lines. It's the brightness of the screen, darker on one side than another, and this is on a new screen.

This is a new screen, and for some reason it's darker too left, but more dark on almost all the left side. I've never had this happen before. Has anyone else seen this or know why?

do you have another screen to try?

Need to figure out if its the screen or the phone

I don't right now unfortunately..

I've just replaced a screen on a 6s plus and experiencing the exact same issue. Only difference is this screen is greyed out on the right side. It's definately not the screen, because I took it off and put it on another 6s plus and it was fine. The darkness sometimes goes away completely and then comes back. I thought it must either be a software glitch or possibly static build up in the phone? Any help will be amazing. The customer thinks I messed up their phone.

I have this too. It suddenly goes either darker all over even though brightness is 100% or (slightly better I guess) just dark on the lower half of the screen. Very annoying. It’s been like it for a few weeks.

I too am having the same issue. Last year I brought into Apple initially for battery issue. After they couldnt solve it they replaced supposedly with a new one. Then the shading issue started. They tried replacing screen but it only worked for a week or two then shading again. They replaced the phone two more times and finally it was gone. However, just under a year later it started to happen again. They just replaced screen because the genius was sure the others hadn’t done that before (she didn’t believe me). She then denied this has been an I phone 6 problem but went ahead and replace screen. It has worked for a week and I am back with shading on right side of screen.

What you wanna do is lower your brightness all the way down, turn off your phone and when it's on put the brightness all the way up, set it on night mode and set your phone on a warm surface or somewhere warm. After a couple hours (12-24 hours) it should look better if not there is probably water that damaged the inside so in that case take apart the phone (vids on YouTube) and dry it from inside.

Will it still work even if I dropped it and it happened?

leaving your phone on a warm surface for 12-24 hours, that don't help at all. what the problem really is that your device need some micro soldering work, they need new components to be replaced.

the way apple make his product most likely phones and tablets are easy to brake down like that. i don't know why, but i have not experienced the same problem we other brands, i love apple product but they are not that strong to resist bad usb cables/wall cube. we have to be careful and not use any aftermarket charging cables or get some good quality when we're replacing them. so this type of things won't happen again

It worked perfectly thank you

Wow, I've been dealing with this issue for almost a year now . The bottom/top half of my screen started zooming in randomly, being darker and then yesterday began inverting the colors on half the screen. It was always fixed by a hard reset and happened just infrequently enough to be annoying but not warrant a new screen. And...it was fixed by turning my zoom setting off. Thanks for the post, Sue!

@ialicea thanks you just saved my iPhone

when will people learn to pop the battery before changing a screen! the 6s series up still carry voltage even after being powered off so it is essential you pop the battery to stop blowing the backlight chips. with is exactly what has happened to the poster. no matter how many screens you try they will all have the greyed out part that will continue to get bigger.

It's a backlight issue. There are "filters" (fuses) on the logic board that protect the backlight circuit in the case of a short or power surge. You will need an experienced micro soldering repair to be done to Micro solder a new filter to the logic board. Google, "half backlight" and you will see the symptom and repair

Ok now I tell you wats gone wrong while changing the screen .

the backlight filter or any other component(most probably filter if it was ok before changing the screen) in the backlight circuit is burnt during lcd replacement because battery wasn’t removed prior to connect new lcd.

why half is gone dark but not the whole screen?

because all the pluses have 2 backlight circuits. So one is gone and the other one is giving the light, and your screen is showing only one side backlight.

you need it get it fix from a logic board repairer.

I do not own an iphone but i remember a friend talked about this when i asked him the same thing. He said that he turned on "night mode" or something close to that. Find it in the bottom bar.

Hope this helps

It’s the replacement screen’s lcd , often third party screens have these issues so contact the distributor and ask for a replacement .

I cannot answer why this happens but if you turn the brightness down all the way and hard shut off your phone( hold the power and the home button) and when it comes back on it should be fixed.

Hi Guys,

Another Fix if the above don’t work require you to go inside the iphone as this happen to me after replacing a battery, half the screen was dimmed and I fixed it by

  1. remove the screen
  2. Pop the battery (so it doesnt discharge)
  3. remove the connectors to the screen ( see this tutorial) - Substituição da bateria do iPhone 6s Plus
  4. Blow dry it with cool air not heater - just in case there is any liquid
  5. reseat the screen connectors being careful to ensure there it a firm click in place for each - one thing to note is to remove tension off the cables by not having the screen at 90 degrees when replacing the connector protector plate, instead around the 75-85 range. this is just incase the connector slightly unseats which is what expect the issue was with my first attempt and getting the display not showing right
  6. reconnect the battery and start up

Hope this helps if the more simple methods fail

Turn off low light filter. It is a bug in filters which leads to filter being applied to only a portion of screen.
