Phone does not turn on cause of heavy rain/water damage

Hello everyone

I already checked out some similar post but as I am very unsure what to do, I figured it would be probably the smartest idea to ask again.

Please be patient with me!

First of all I want to let you know I am not good at all with electrical stuff like PC,phones and so on ... so I am also really scared and freaked out by even the simplest step to take like professional cleaning or so, cause I am not confident I can do it and I want to avoid making further mistakes and worsening the situation.

That is the state of art:

So my iPhone was exposed to heavy rain, there was a taifun and it rain so hard my clothes were comletely soaked within 5min. Just to compare the paper money in my wallet which was inside my backback was so soaked I couldnt get it apart and was even able to drain out some water.

The thing is and I know that is the most stupid thing I could have done, I had my iPhone in my breast pocket and I was out in the rain for about 3-4h. At first the phone still workes as I was able to make a picture. After a while I wanted to take another one, but the phone was turned off (so I dont know if it was turned off or not cause the screen was just black) and I couldnt either turn it off or on. Since I had no aother choice I wrapped in into a towel (which got slightle wet later on well). It stayed like this for another 3-4h until I was back home. I immeadetly put it in a bag of rice (which helped me last time when I dropped my phone also into water and letting it sit overnight in a rice bag was successfull). Also this phone had been dropped into the toilet very shortly a couple of times and was always fine.

Last times there was always water dropping out when shaking the phone, but this time not.

So after a night in the rice bag there is still nothing changes, I tried turning it on but nothing. Also connecting it to my PC did not work.

I am leaving today for a week of a homestay program so I dont know what to do.

I really need my phone and the data and all the pictures on it.

Please let me know what I can do best with my limited abilities and time !!!!

Drying it out only delays the inevitable. corrosion will set in and eventually kill your phone . You need to tear it down and clean it either in an ultrasonic bath with demineralized water and cleaning solution and in bad areas of corrosion use a flux with a hot air station for better cleaning. if these are not available IP alcohol and a Q-tip or soft tooth brush to clean the board and all connectors . The guild in @gigabit87898 is an excellent guide to follow . If you dont want to go through all that trouble I would advise you to back up everything on your phone and prepare for what comes next

Hi there,

I am sorry to say it but given your story and the situation you are in it is best to bring it to a repair shop. Usually the first thing to go when water damage occurs is the battery. You might expect that to be replaced but usually if you can get it to a shop quickly enough they can do the cleaning with 100% isopropyl alcohol which will displace any stray water and then be able to dry out quickly as the alcohol has a very quick evaporation rate.

I would highly suggest not using rice unless it minor water damage and you wrap the phone in paper towel beforehand. Typically rice will get into your ports and it also has a lot of dust in the rice. I would suggest trying to follow along with a breakdown video as far as you dare to go. Then take canned air and spray it. Then leave it out for a day. If you don't want to take it apart, or the above solution doesn't fix it, almost all repair shops fix water damage. Sometimes water can damage to a point of no return; in this case, you can try replacing the motherboard in the phone, but at that point it's probably time to get a new phone.
