Partial startup but won't boot

I recently replaced the battery on my Macbook Pro.

Unfortunately I fried L7602 which is a ferrite in the ground/case leg of the microphone by shorting it to the battery (mea culpa)

The system now boots in the following way:

1. Fan starts - low speed. SIL light is bright white. Power cable has green light.

2. SIL light flashes 5 times, goes out.

3. Fans go to high speed, DVD cycles, screen backlight turns on.

Tests

  1. All power supply voltages check OK - ALL_SYS_PWRGD is OK
  2. MCP_PS_PWRGD, FSB_CPURST_L and CPU_PWRGD are OK
  3. CAPS Lock LED on Kbd doesn't work
  4. Power button turns system off after 5s
  5. Power + (ShftCtlOpt) turns power off immediately, so Kbd is being sensed
  6. Removing system RAM gives 5 flashes followed by one repeating beep, so diags are working

Any thoughts?

Solução escolhida

The final answer was very simple -

Re-instal the trackpad.

Who knew - a Macbook Pro won't boot without the trackpad installed, not even to diagnostics.

Oh well, I know a lot more about Landrex, TLink, and Macbook Pro operation. Live and learn :)

You say “SIL light flashes 5 times, goes out.” try looking more info about this over the WEB maybe this is a error code that tells you the problem.

1 comentário:

The web comments relating to 5 flashes are a bit confusing.

From what I can see the five quick flashes at the start are undocumented. I think the SIL flash codes are slower. If I remove the RAM I get one slow flash code and one beep - the correct diagnostic for "No RAM".

I suspect if I could force the CPU error, I would get five slow flashes accompanied by five beeps.

Apple suggests -To start Apple Diagnostics:

Turn off your computer if it is on by choosing Shut Down from the Apple () menu.

Press the power button to turn on your computer.

Immediately press and hold the D key until Apple Diagnostics begins.

But this didn't help.
