After replacing the battery with an IFIXIT battery it won't charge

I replaced the battery - all went fine. Phone came on with about 20% battery so tested all the functionality of the phone no problems. I used it until it went below the 10% as specified and then put the charger on it. Got the noise and icon indicating the charger was attached, but it's not taking a charge. I shut the phone off and rebooted, but still just sitting there at 16%. Been charging for over an hour.

Any ideas on what the issue could be?

Update (05/22/2016)

Sorry - I should have included more. The phone is about 3 years old and the reason for replacing it is because it would only hold a charge for an hour or so. Also, I have used a Mophie case, otherwise I use the charger that came with it. I have tried switching the charger and cable with my wife's iPhone charger as well.

Would the lightening port allow the phone to acknowledge that it is plugged into the charger and charging as the tone and icon on the home screen show? I would think if the lightening port were bad it wouldn't show that.

I suppose that would be the next thing to change.

Update (05/22/2016)

Alright, now I have a bit more to comment on. After a number of hours the charge is up to 54% and it seems it only takes a charge if I am using it. Does this make any sense? If I stop it stops showing the charge % increasing, but if I use it actively I can see the charge % go up slowly. I'm baffled.

Update (05/22/2016)

One more clarification - I have found that I don't need to be using it for the charge % to increase, just turned the autolock off so that the screen stays illuminated all the time. The charge % continues to increase. I remain baffled.

Yes it could. Different circuitries in the connector. I'd go with that first

@dabeld you did not tell us why you replaced the other battery. I assume it is because it did not hold a charge as well. This could be caused by a bad charger and a bad cable. So you want to mnake sure that those two items are working okay. After that you will have to check the lightning port on your phone. Possibly replace that. If it still should not charge, than you may just have issues with the charging IC on the logic board. iPhones do not like after market chargers and a failed charging IC is the most common outcome from using those. Start with the simple things and work your way up. Oh yes, it is possible that you do have a bad battery. Check with ifixit and see if they are willing (most likely) to replace it. Use these guides to work on your phone.

Oldturkey - appreciate your comments. Head-scratcher to me as it did charge to 100% once I turned off the autolock feature. We will see if it charges normally from here on out. Fingers crossed.

I think we're barking up the wrong tree so far. Put the old battery back on it temporarily, does it still charge correctly? defective iphone batteries don't often not charge, damage to logic boards during battery replacement does cause batteries to not charge though.

If the other battery still charges, you might have a bad battery but I don't suspect you'll find that. If the old battery also doesn't charge, look very closely at the 11 very small components just to the right of the battery connector. If you can't find 11, its because they've been knocked off in repair. A very common novice mistake.

Bobby - thanks for your thoughts. It did charge once I turned off the auto-lock. Can't explain why that is. I will let it discharge and see if charging goes back to normal.
