Hi,
Have you tried the printhead cleaning procedure to see if this resolves your problem?
Here is a link that shows how to do it.

same here, this printer was given to me and was not plugged in for considerable about of time i have installed fresh compatibles.
i think it is something to do with the feed the pipes at the bottomwhere the go into the cartridge are only half coated with the ink.
