Wi-Fi greyed out after replacing Logic board

After changing logic board and Touch ID into another rear housing and display, the wifi icon is grey in control center and settings toggle is grey. Bluetooth can be toggled through control center but doesn't enable in settings it just keeps spinning. I put it back in the original housing and problem still persists. Help is much appreciated.

I might also add I just tried another logic board which worked fine. So the problem is related to the original logic board. It was working perfectly before installing it on the new housing. I tried restoring to factory settings, put in the freezer for 20 minutes, various resets and restarts, no luck at all.

Solução escolhida

The internal traces were damaged when the nut was torn off, dead.

@promaster123 check the back and top of your faulty logic board. The grey chip there is the Wi-Fi chip. Coming out of it are lines for the Wi-Fi signal going to the antenna. Is anything missing, broken off, damaged on that line? Otherwise you could have flexed and/or damaged the Wi-Fi chip itself.

You can post high-res picture of the board in that area if you'd like a second opinion.

EDIT: looking at those pictures, it seems you have long screw damage to one of the screw holes which can typically cause this loss of Wi-Fi.

What's this at the bottom of this picture? Isn't the screw nut missing?

Ok I will check that out. I will try and attach an image shortly.

Ok added the images to main post, let me know what you think, I didn't find anything strange

@promaster123 nothing seems to be missing near the Wi-Fi chip, but the quality of the pictures is bad, can't tell for sure.

HOWEVER, you seem to have long screw damage to the left screw hole (picture 1) and THAT my friend can definitely cause no Wi-Fi among other things. Meaning you screwed a long screw where a short one should go and apparently punctured through the layers of the board and caused this issue. Either live with it or be prepared to pay at least a $100 US (since you could have one or both sides damaged) to someone with the needed micro soldering tools and skill.

Hm ok that seems weird I didn't force screw anything. Which hole exactly is the one that is damaged can't tell really.

I might also add that the wifi was working after I changed the board and connected and screwed everything. I left the screen popped out to test everything and wifi was working. After that I remember I shut it down and closed it properly than turned it back on. Wifi was grey since.

Check the bottom of the picture that I just added to my answer.

May be your picture is very blurry and I'm therefore mistaken. But it seems to me that the screw nut is missing. Is it?

Before you inspect any physical damage:

- check you date and time! If date is back in 1970 ( usually is) set it right to current date.

- try to change region ( just something else than the a proper one), try wifi... and after that set it up back in the proper region

- set date/time on Auto

try wifi

if it is not working - set it back to manual

-----------------------------------------

if this is not working, try hard reset (Home button and Power button together till you see Apple logo and then release bot at the same time)

and another little advice: NEVER PUT ANY MOTHERBOARD IN THE FREEZER. this is the same URBAN LEGEND as drying wet motherboards on rice - not helpful - just getting even riskier

por

Ok tried all of that, time was ok and changes region and put it to automatic and hard reset. Still grey.

Bojan, I have yet to see an iPhone 5S with greyes Wi-Fi because of wrong time and date settings...

por

No worries Rany... unfortunately, it is a quite common problem after you disconnect the battery with a combination of latest IOS.

So I dont know if youve solved it yet or not, but in the first picture it appears that the wifi antenna was not connected to the back of the board before installation. The wifi is the squiggly wire in pic #1, not the one that runs down the side of the board

Yep it's connected and the problem persists. Thanks though

Andy, you're right that the antenna must be connected to provide a strong signal. But with a disconnected antenna he gets a weak signal, not a greyed out option - unable to turn on Wi-Fi.
