LCD shutoff when pressure is applied

After replacing the digitizer on an ipad mini wifi, the LCD shuts off when pressure is applied to the digitizer. At first i thought it was just the bottom right corner, but now I see that pressing anywhere on the digitizer with any bit of pressure shuts off the LCD and locks the device (passcode required to unlock the device). I'm aware that there is a gold contact that must be covered with electrical tape otherwise the digitizer will manifest "phantom touch," but I'm not sure to what else the issue could possibly be related!

Any help, information or guidance on this issue is very much appreciated.

I found out what it was. there are 2 magnets that must be taken off the old digi that control lcd shutoff when you have a magnetic case. I took the 2 little magnets off the old digi and put them on the new one before sealing and it worked perfectly. took about a half hour to figure it out, but at least it's resolved.

The magnets don't have anything to do with actual electrical smart cover function, they are just there to hold the smart cover in place. They are perfectly optional if you do not intend to use the smart cover.

The problem you are having is related to the home flex on the back of the screen, where the smart cover lock function lives. In most cases where you have inappropriate smart cover lock screen from just pressing on the screen, it is solved by resoldering the home flex joints, replacing the home flex, or usually just replacing the screen and sending this screen back to the supplier.

In your case if you have solved the auto lock function, it was just from repositioning the home flex.

it turns out that there are 2 magnets that must be swapped from the old digi to the new one. I assume they work with magnetic screen covers (when you cover the screen it shuts off). Anyway, I took the old magnets off (a step i missed in the guide) and put them on the new digi and it works perfectly. Mission accomplished.
