Can I replace a 512 with one 2GB and leave the other?

While upgrading my RAM is was informed I could use a single 2GB chip in each slot. I purchased one and left the other 512 chip in place. Did I complicate the system, or should I continue with another 2GB chip (for a total of 4GB), or is it still a 1GB And 1GB max. The system does not appear to be any faster.

Opções

No, the iMac should have no problem with non-identical sticks of memory, and you should see no performance loss. This is not always true with every computer, but you should have no problem with your iMac.
