iPhone 6 LCD all black. Digitizer and all other functions working.

This phone has hit the ground pretty hard and has been bent quite a bit. The LCD and everything else were working fine for a couple months after the damage, then the other day the LCD went out, while everything else still functions properly (digitizer, speakers, calls can be taken, power and volume buttons). Images are included below.

I removed the screen and tried a new replacement with no luck. Same thing.

I checked the LCD FPC connector, and it looks fine. The only thing I haven't done is remove the logic board to check for dirt or anything else under that may be causing a short.

Any other suggestions are welcome, especially if you've come across this issue before.

Thank you.

iPhone 6 has a terrible habit of losing its backlight diode function for no reason. Another cause of no backlight in the 6 is long screw damage from mixing up the screws at screen replacement.

The screen went out before there was any attempt at repair. It's not because of mixing up screws.

por

And is there a fix to the long screw being placed in wrong spot

Sounds like the backlight fuse on the logic board went out.

Thanks for the response. Is there a way to test for this or could you tell from a high-res photo?

por

If you can slightly see the background image just no light, then that is the case. I believe there is a way to test the backlight fuse with a multi meter if you can locate where on the logic it is but it might require you to remove the metal heat shields which are soldered on. There are several companies that specialize in micro soldering and fix things like this. Ive used Gadget Drop a few times, he is awesome.

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't remember seeing the background image.

por

You don't need to remove soldered on shields to test backlight filter function on the iPhone 6. The backlight filters are near the LCD connector.

por

Wasn't sure where it was, thats why I said "it might require". Micro soldering is not my area of expertise, but I see that its yours. I will keep you in mind if any of my techs mess up another device but lets hope that doesn't happen.

Trust me no one will help you on this kind of a job as for all the experts who know how to cleanly do micro soldering jobs, its not worth it

That's what I got back as an answer to my exact problem, I tried doing it my self but when I was half way on putting on a new filter it just flew off my tweezers and never found again so I gave up

It's sad that there is no one who actually is willing to help on doing these repairs as they become pro.

They would reply to you with ' we think it's a rabbit hole repair and go buy a new phone'

Thanks to them for such a wonderful advice and killing the whole purpose and idea of fixing things :-/

You need to understand that it's not an excuse. Most times, when an IC goes bad, or a filter/coil/etc, there's an underlying problem that caused it. If a fuse pops in your car, you can replace the fuse, but it doesn't fix the actual problem that caused it to pop. If a trace inside the mainboard (in between the layers) is shorting out, there's literally no fix for it. You'd destroy the board just trying to get to it.
