iPod Touch won't turn on or respond at all

I've had my Ipod Touch 2nd Generation for about a year and a half. Recently it stopped working completely. Does not charge or connect to my computer. Does not turn on or restart with home and power buttons. I think it is the battery and fortunately I have a two year warranty. Unfortunately my Ipod Touch had most likely taken water damage (even though it has never been effected by this, it has never been submerged in water but was in my pocket during rainstorms) and has a small crack in the screen (again neither of these things should have broken my Ipod because they both happened weeks or months before this problem). What should I do in this situation? Go to an Apple store and risk voiding the warranty or something else. I'm kind of in a a bind.

forget about voiding the warranty - that warranty is gone since the first raindrop hit the fluid indicator.

the only thing you could try is to disassemble the ipod and check the logic board for fluid residue (white/greenish stuff)

if you have a multimeter, measure the battery - if it has less than 3v - the ipod will not be charged or start

use the logic board guide when you open the ipod.

another thing about fluid damages - it can take month until something blows up.

had one on my table a few days ago (beautiful 32gb version) - they told mthat there was an incident with beer, i tiold them to bring it in - but not - it was working - until a week ago.

now it's simply toasted

so don't hesitate and open it.

if you find fluid residue - clean it with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and a soft paintbrush - don't forget the connectors!

Hey Markus, if it is below 3V would that mean that the logic board is damaged? Im assuming so but I just wanted to make sure.

sometimes the battery is so old, tired and fed up that it loses the ability to charge or be charged. Less than 3v means that this battery is beyond usefulness. You may bump start it but in the short term you will become fed up of charging it every hour. So, swap it for a lovely fresh new battery. The fact that it has got to less than 3v is not so much an indicator that the logicboard is bad at all. Swap your battery and then reassess/reassemble. (BTW not all batteries that you buy will be manufactured yesterday. This is an older model so you may receive a battery that has been shelved a while..have just replaced battery x3 before I got a good one!)

@pollytintop, my ipod gives me a message that it needs to be charged when it reaches 20% (0.74v). I don't understand the statement "Less than 3v means that this battery is beyond usefulness." Can you explain in a little more detail.
