I repaired my buddy's iPhone 5s and now he's hacing some weird problems. The flashlight won't work and his microphone only works if he is in speaker phone or in voice memos but regular calls it doesn't work. I'm not sure he ordered the appropriate battery but I had figured our it wouldn't turn on if the battery wasn't appropriate. It said it provided the voltage and watt/hr

The battery could still be providing a lower voltage then necessary, which can cause glitchiness but still allow the phone to boot.
If you have a multimeter, turn it to the DC setting and touch the probes to the two outside pins on the battery connector. If it's anything below 3.7-3.8, then it's a faulty battery
Oh yeah, that reminds me. If you pried the battery up from the top, you could have ripped the volume cable which would explain the flashlight and speaker phones issues. Check the cable laying directly under the top of the battery for rips/tears

That makes sense for the volume buttons as Ive replaced those before and new they were close to under it. But the thing that confuses me is the flashlight and the microphone. The microphone is at the bottom. There weren't any wires close for that?
There are multiple microphones in iPhones these days, and one of them is on the power/volume flex under the battery.
There is an upper and lower microphone. The tiny hole near the rear cam lens is your upper mic, this has a lot to do with speakerphone. It's contained in the same cable as the flashlight, power button, volume buttons, silent switch and the vibrator control.
I replaced the cable and it fixed everything except for being able to talk without speaker phone. Is there something I didn't connect or miss?

It's not the battery.
Most likely case is a little bit of pry damage to the board somewhere--probably near the dock connector and/or the power flex. Take is apart and have a good look at the board under magnification
