Fix for headphone jack not working

For anyone who has come across an issue where plugging their headphones into their moto x and then the audio either stuttering between the headphones and the phone's speaker, or just not playing through the headphones at all. The issue is a small metal clip at the top of the inside of the jack. It gets worn away and pushed back and stops making contact with the rings on the jack. Here is how to fix that using a small piece of cardboard or other non-conductive material:

Hope this helps for anyone desperately trying to figure out how to save their trusty moto x.

EDIT:

The link above no longer works, so I posted a photo illustrating where to insert the spacer: http://imgur.com/a/3bHEc

Thanks so much! I'm pretty rough with my phone when I'm out running. I used a small piece of plastic and pushed it behind the contact after pulling it out with a safety pin. Works fine again!

Sometimes there even a simpler solution, My headphone jack was having all sorts of issues. I took a flashlight to look inside and lo and behold pocket lint had built up inside the jack. I used a wooden toothpick to clean it out and had no problems after that.

How do I take off my back of my phone so I can get the headphone jack thing out of my phone so that way I can listen to my music and watch my movie

It's a workaround, not a solution.

We all have old phones around. Find one that DOES work with headphones.

Use HOT SPOT to connect to your Motorola.

Now run your music app on the old phone with streaming through the hot spot. Works great!
