Yes it does it disolves the glue let it soak for a few mintures and then pry. I know first hand you need at least 90% rubbing alcohol its like the same with the a1278 display the rubbing alcohol loosens the adhesive behind the glass.

That guide breaks it more than my method it looks like crap plus the guy that did that should have just cut into exisiting wires and soldered together and then used heat shrink tubing to clean it up and make it look nice there was no need to open that up. Do it the guide way and your charger will look like crap.

You'll be embarrassed to use it.

@John - If you look at the label you'll see rubbing alcohol can be either Isopropyl or Methanol and can have other stuff in it as well like Toluene. Both Toluene & Methanol can dissolve plastics. Which is what you likely saw, unlike isopropyl alcohol which won't.

Yeah that's it! All I know is I use bottles of that stuff like it's going out style for everything I do :)

Frankly, I don't recommend opening these power adapters. It's one thing to do it in a pinch but the liability and safety risks make it a dangerous venture if it is used in the field after fixing (fire & shock). Apple in some ways has smartened up here if you take a look at the new adapter for the new MacBook it is now a USB-C socket! so you can replace the cord anytime you need to! I wish they would come out with a similar unit for the older adapters.

Take rubbing alcohol let it seep in the cracks on the side real good use a metal spudger to pry it apart there is no clean break apart really but its possible to get it back together with glue afterwards it may not look great. It's not easy it will take muscle. Be careful not cut yourself. You may be able to avoid cracking that open take a exacto knife heat the blade on gas stove or a lighter or heat gun get the tip hot then cut into the rubber on the wire out holder you can get to the spot you need to solder.
