iPod Classic very low volume and a loud whine coming from speakers

I have a 80GB Ipod Classic Model A1238.

Ipod syncs fine and I can manage my music but it has very low volume and a loud whine coming from speakers but not in headphones.

I generally play my Ipod in my vehicle using an aux cable. The other day when I plugged it in I found the volume was almost inaudible even when I turned it all the way up (I then checked it in my other vehicle, still no volume). I then plugged in the charging cable thinking maybe the battery was low and the volume came back to normal except for a very annoying somewhat loud whining sound through the car speakers. I then discovered that when I pull the charging cable about half way out of the charging/sync socket the whining sound almost goes away. This is really a pain because then cable is very loose in the socket. I keep the Ipod in a hard, clear plastic case but as luck would have it, it slid off the car seat and landed on the driveway on the socket end, a couple of days before this problem started.

Are there any other part(s) that could cause this issue other than the Logic Board or Battery? And could a cable have been jarred loose from the Logic Board?

I am planning to replace the battery anyway but now thinking a Logic Board also.
