Hello, i have Thunderbolt display with fault backlight - there is a picture if you point with flashlight on display and TB display is also in Display settings on my mac. If you are lucky, display turn on after power off and working for a while. Is there any chance of repairing backlight? Thank you. Milhaus

Sounds like you have a cold solder joint on the logic board on the WLED driver.

Do you think you can post pictures of this? Im having the same issue but the display won't illuminate at all.
Jump to Step 12 in the IFIXIT guide: Apple Thunderbolt Display Teardown. It will show you the Supertex HV9982 3-channel switch-mode LED driver IC location.
Is there a good DIY way to take care of it? I'm trying to avoid unnecessary costs being a college student.
This is preaty advanced for a first timer.
Getting the needed tools will set you back a piece and you still need to locate the part. I would recommend you let someone with the skills & tools do this. I'd hate to see you make a mess of the display here which would be more expensive to replace.
Thanks Dan. The monitor did end up working for all of yesterday and I tried it today and the image stopped being illuminated. Do you have any ideas what it could be?
