You can try a few troubleshooting steps to make sure that it's the display itself that needs replaced. You could try doing a hard reset or factory reset on the device to see if it will fix the display issue. Beware that a factory reset will wipe all your saved data so make sure you have a backup before doing this. If the problem is software related usually a reset can help fix this type of problem but if it is a hardware issue a reset will likely not help. If you can tell the device is indeed powering on but the screen is black then more than likely the LCD is damaged. if your device displays a picture but the touch does not respond then you have a damaged digitizer. You may also want to disassemble the device to check the cables to make sure they haven't lost their connection to logic board. If all the cables appear to be properly seated in there connection on the logic board and the device indeed powers on than it is safe to assume you need a new screen replacement.
