Why did my camera just randomly shut off?

A lot of times, your camera's battery display can show a higher than actual charge, or the battery can drain much faster than normal, causing owners to be surprised when the camera suddenly powers down when it seems to still have charge. Extremely hot or cold conditions, frequent powering on and off of the camera, and extensive use of the microphone, flash, or zoom can all reduce battery life. Clean your battery's terminals with a dry cloth to keep it in good condition and replace an old, run-down battery with a new one if these problems persist.
