I know there is a guide for replacing the screen on the other model but when looking at it I noticed how different the builds were. CPR and Motorola have both told me they can do it,but it will cost me $150. I would wrather not pay that much if I can do it myself.

When getting the replacement screen, make sure that you make it explicitly clear that you need the 2nd gen screen, because $84 for a full screen assembly on the 2nd gen Moto X sounds way too low to be possible. I've spoken to all of my wholesale suppliers, and the lowest they can get screens for is about $220. That's glass, lcd, frame, and all connectors pre-installed. I understand CPR gets a bulk discount the likes of which us little guys can only dream, but I cannot imagine that they can get a $220 screen for $84. In fact, $84 sounds about right for the FIRST gen Moto X, so it's entirely possible that the person you spoke to just has no idea what they are talking about and is selling you the wrong part. Just an FYI.
I'll also be putting up a full, step-by-step guide as soon as we get our shipment of screens in, probably in about a week (Chinese New Year is slowing down shipping times a lot), so keep an eye out if you can wait that long!

UPDATE: Unfortunately, after getting the part in, the customer called and told me that apparently Motorola is doing replacements on these for $130. Since there's no way I can beat that price, he's just going with them.
Do you have the link to the Motorola service center which does the replacement?
This info helped me out a lot! I have a first gen moto x, but for some reason I just couldn't figure out the price to get the screen fixed at. I'm hoping this will give me at least one clue as to how much it costs.

Motorola should step up and take responsibility for their shoddy workmanship. a phone dropped from a chair, with a solid case that completely covers the phone should not shatter like mine did. When I contacted them they said they don't repair them they will give me another one for 125.00 + tax. Not only that but I have to turn in my phone before they will send me one so I have no way to communicate by phone. I'm extremely disappointed in how this company does business. Fortunately I'm not locked into a contract through Republic Wireless and though I like Republic, I don't like Motorola so I'm done.

I had mine in a protective case also and the same thing happened to me I've never broken a glass on any phones the Moto X second-generation stinks.
i got my daughter a new phone few days go, today she dropped it on the kitchen floor (wooden) and the screen is gone...what crappy screen
Ive had 3 because I dropped m2 of them maybe a foot off the ground and the screen shattered in both of them. Crazy i accidentally rolled my iPhone 5 out of my hand onto the black top and dropped it on concrete and it barely has any scratches and it didn't have a case on it.

I have broken the screen twice (never happened with any other phone). The first time, I sent it into Motorola, and 2 weeks later I received my new phone. This time I bought a cover, and dropped it from sitting height. The screen shattered... I am not replacing this one. I am VERY disappointed in the quality of glass, and I am sure it will break again if I have it fixed.
Sorry, I know this does not help, I just had to vent.

Did Motorola charge you $120+ for repair? I agree the glass seems way to fragile. I dropped my phone for the first time today, and bam the screen is shattered and does not register touch. This seems to be a design problem.
I also have the moto x 2nd gen. I have broken it one first drop 3 weeks after receiving it. I replaced through Motorola, cost $130. Five days later, I dropped for first time again, shattered it. It is ridiculous how fragile the glass is, gorilla glass,lol, more like monkey dung.good luck
It's interesting you say that, because I've dropped my moto x (both second and first gen) SEVERAL times and the only time either of them have broken was when they landed face down.
Part of it has to do with the surface the phone lands on. I dropped my 2nd Gen Moto X on a tile floor, face down multiple times, however when I dropped it on pavement, shatter...
As a note, I'm a huge klutz with my phones. I've had iPhones in the past and those things will shatter if you look at them sideways. When you drop it on pavement face down, because pavement isn't a flat, even surface, it's more likely to have a small impact point where all the force is delivered, causing the glass to shatter more readily.
I love this phone and have purchased a tempered glass screen protector for the replacement they're sending (I purchased the accidental damage coverage because, as I said, I'm a klutz and break screens all the time).

The dreaded thing happened to me this morning. Moto X glass extends all the way to edges and the impact of a fall can directly be on the glass edges. In most of the other phones, the glass is slightly smaller and covered by the bezel which takes the impact of a fall.

Do you need to replace all of that if it is just the glass that is cracked?? I am finding glass replacements for the gen 2 for like $8 on ebay and amazon.

I could probably just replace the glass, but from what I have read, the way the display system is glued together makes it difficult to simply replace the glass.
Margaret Allen, you are correct. From what I've seen and read AMOLED screens are very expensive and hard to replace just the glass. For a good repair you need a constant temperature heat source, UV glue, and a UV curing light. Its also hard to remove just the glass in the first place. Also AMOLEDs are very easy to damage. I had to turn away a customer last week because I don't have the proper tools to replace just the glass on new phones, and a glass and LCD assembly is very expensive.

Margaret as what we encounter before for a moto x (either 1st or 2nd) there is no way that we can fix the screen of the phone by our self. Because the screen of the phone is build up with the phone and there is a special tool that you're going to use if you do that.

Motorola just offered me two options, I am with Republic Wireless. Option 1: send my phone first, they will inspect, repair, for $125 plus tax, roughly around $140 - 150. Second option, they send a replacement, return mine within five days. My credit card will have placed on hold, $500, which will be lifted when they receive my phone. The total out of pocket on this option is higher: $125 for the new phone, $25 for shipping, and once I got off chat, they called on phone, and said there would be an additional $75 for taxes. I told her "no." Mentioned that this is as much as a new one almost. I am almost afraid to do Option 1, in that they could charge me more than expected. I was just a few hours away from buying a case for mine. Had the phone 1 1/2 weeks. $324 through Republic Wireless. I was hoping to save on that $10 month contract, but so far not looking good. If anyone knows where I can get the LCD screen replacement at a great cost, I have a friend that repairs IPhone screens. He mentioned the repair looked easy enough, as long as you don't try to separate the LCD from the glass. That looks like a nightmare, and no guarantees.

When talking to CPR (Cellphone Repair Company) their price for repair was too high for me, but BC I knew they had access to the replacement screen I asked if they could sell it to me directly. They said yes and are willing to sell it to me for $84.

I agree with u about the quality of glass...I'm embarrassed to admit that I am on my 4th phone and this one too is now cracked! And all have broken on the 1st drop.

I recently bought a Moto X 2nd gen with broken glass and ordered just the replacement glass thinking I could repair it myself. As it turns out, the phone comes apart easily, but trying to replace the glass on my AT&T model was impossible. The glass is glued directly to the touch screen. So I returned it and ordered the whole assembly. It costs around $110. I think I will still have to use the old plastic "bezel" and hope I canget the glue strips to work as they hold it all together. If you get a whole assembly, I'd recommend spending a little more to get the whole assembly including the bezel and metal screen for the back. Realistically, paying $150 for someone else to do the job is not a bad idea. My total cost, including buying a walnut back, comes out to over $250. You can buy a complete phone for less than that on eBay with a plain back. Make sure you order the right assembly for your specific model or phone carrier. There is a difference!

I sent my phone to Motorola and got a replacement phone for $125 (not same phone being repaired, got a new phone), so check with Motorola support before venturing into self repair.

I still haven't replaced the screen / Display on my Moto X 2nd gen. I'm now seeing entire phones (used on eBay) for as much as the cost of replacing it! Why even bother? I think the problem is that the displays are "OLED" not LCD. You have to replace the whole assembly. Older phones, like Apple 3g and gs, have two separate components .. the glass/digitizer, and the LCD. You can replace one or either for a much lower price. From now on, I will not buy OLED screen phones! Almost any phone with Dow Corning "Gorilla glass" will crack and break. The Apple 4 models were the worst because of cost but also the repair process. You have to completely disassemble the phone! I turn those repair jobs down... it can take hours of stressful micro surgery. Those screws are small!

To be fair, almost all new (within the past couple years) phones have the LCD, digitizer, and glass combined. The only device that I've repaired in the last year that hasn't was an old iPad 2. That includes OLED, AMOLED, etc.
That is true, however the point I was trying to make is that because of glass that breaks too easily, we are forced to replace the whole assembly. I would suggest that before buying any phone, investigate the replacement cost of that assembly, In most cases, it will be more to do that than buy another phone, If you plan on keeping a phone for awhile, see if an extended warranty will cover that replacement.

What is Motorola doing man! I dropped mibe from one feet hight literally. N it got smashed from bottom. My kid dropped it from his lap n the cracks moved and even theres a tiny empty space showing the lcd beneath.
Every other moto x ends up like this. Disappointed.

Did u replace the glass yet. Dropped mine on concrete yesterday. My version is a custom cognac leather back. I'd hate to invest too much when all these new devices are available now or about to come out...let me know how just the screen replacement goes

ya i agree with the above comment because accidently my moto x2 fell down from 1st floor and my display have been broken but glass did not so i went to service center i ast the new display and he said it cost 12000....by putting 12000 for the brocken display insted i can buy moto g3 so what i mean to ask is will u please reduse the price of display
