iPhone 5 turns on and off by itself

After replacing the power/ volume flex cable on my white iphone 5 it started behaving strange, it started turning on and off by itself, the first thing i tried was to connect it to itunes and update it to ios 8.1.2. When i updatet it also restored it. But the same thing started happening again.

But sometimes it doesn't tur off at all, but if i restart it myself it starts restarting by itself again . I have also tried 4 different batteries in the phone without any luck. Do anyone have any tips about what i can do to fix this?

Hi Vegard,

A/ Did you try cleaning the battery connector using a cotton swab dipped in 90%+ isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol? It is simple to try, so rule it out first.

B/ Next, try and disconnect the PMV cable that you previously replaced.

C/ While keeping it disconnected, attach the battery, and connect your iPhone to a charger or to a laptop. The iPhone should then restart. If the issue is gone, reseat the cable. If the issue returns, you installed a defective PMV cable and you need to replace it again. Try a different source, get a good quality cable.

D/ If all the above don't solve it, examine the battery connector and around it using a magnifying glass. Look for anything damaged, broken, missing, part removed. There's a glass-like rectangular component just above where the lightning dock connects on the board. Is it chipped?

Let us know if you find something, and upload a picture if you can.

Hi. I have gotten a new problem now, the phone wouldnt boot beyond the apole logo so i connectet to itunes to recover it put when i connect it a just stands waiting for iphone.

And my iphone was just stuck at the apple logo then an NAND error appared on the top of the screen. Is there any possibility that static electricity broke my phone?

Something is probably damaged where the screen cables connect to the board, top right corner. Look there for anything broken, missing, damaged, part-removed, corroded, etc. Post a picture if your can.

Also check north of the battery connector on the board, there is a rectangular component there? Is it chipped?

Hey. I could not see a glass-like rectangular component just above where the lightning dock connects. Do you have a picture of it so i know what to look for?

Have you tried replacing the proximity sensor again? Maybe it is a faulty sensor that you installed.

I just had an iPhone 5 this past week that had the same problem as well. I replaced the screen display and all the problems went away.

Don't know if this will help, but give it a shot and see if it works.

I've just remembered something, when i first opened the phone to replace the volum/power flex cable i was unlucky and lanced the battery with a screwdriver and some of the battery acid leaked out onto the old volum/power cable, and it caught fire. Do you think this may have gotten the motherboard to get shorted?

I've tried everything else, and this is the last thing i can come up with. Please help.

It is a possibility though I would still try replacing the screen or if you can, just the LCD. As long as it is still turning on for some time, it shouldn't have anything to do with the logic board. But, if the phone caught fire, i don't know how much more money you want to put into this phone. That fire would have caused other damaged that we don't know about. Bottom line, I would put in a fresh battery that is able to turn the phone on and a new screen assembly or LCD. If none of that works, then I am out of options with my scope of knowledge. Good luck.

Absolutely, did you try a new battery on first?

And did you examine for damage the area where the acid landed?

Finally, did you or did you not try your phone with the PMV cable disconnected as per my answer here above, part C?

Let us know!

Yes i have tried a new battery and a new screen. And i also examined the whole phone for damages but i couldn't find anything wrong. Yes i tried starting the phone with out the PMV cable...

Thanks for the tips.

Try disconnecting all hardware like rear/front camera etc, and see if it powers up fine, if it does, plug one in at a time, and when the problem happens again, that will be your culprit.

If it still has the problem with everything disconnected, then I'm unsure what else there is.

This happens to my iPhone 5 as well. Never had with my previous iPhones. I replaced the battery still happens. I have to connect the cable to use it. But not properly I can only get to phone by sliding it across to only 4 apps.
