Randomly shuts down when screen is adjusted or body twists

I've had this 13" 2.16 ghz macbook for over 10 years (long past my expectations), and never had issues until recently. It's become very sensitive to movement. Whenever I pick it up, or move it in any way that causes a small stress to the body or screen, it will shut down.

The only way I can turn it back on is to hold down the power button and play with opening and closing and twisting the screen until it finally turns back on.

Aside from this, the computer operates fine.

All my other answers to this question is 'time for a new computer' but that's an expensive answer - and wasteful considering I only use it to browse and watch movies.

Over three years ago I updated the ram to 4 GB, updated the harddrive to 500 GB, and updated the OS from 10.4 to 10.6.8. Aside from that, and the occasional battery replacements, all other parts are original.

As a workaround you could connect it to an external monitor and leave the lid alone to continue using it as a desktop. OR, you have to open the machine and use a Mark One Eyeball to find the cut or nicked cable or lose connector your torquing moves to short out the machine... and repair/replace it. You should do it ASAP before the repeated crashes scrambles your HD MBD so badly it won't boot at all.

There comes a point where you have to balance cost vs benefit. Your machine is ancient in "Technology years" (like "Dog years" only shorter).

The LCD backlight could fail at any time. You probably can't access any new hardware or many "new" push driven Internet sights. But if it still does what you bought it to do I can understand your reluctance to trade up...After all this is the Recycle Site for Technology. I am still using (sometimes - not as a daily driver, a 1996 PowerPC 7600) I particularly like the calendar program from PrintShop... but I digress.

Only you know how much time and $ you want to put into this machine...

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.
