Replaced Power/Lock button + cable but not working.

Hi, I replaced my power/lock button + the cable and it is still not allowing me to use the button. The only way I can turn it off is to let it die or open it up and disconnect the battery. Can someone tell me if there is suppose to be something between the button and the cable sensor? Because the button doesn't pop back up or anything just stays down. Maybe someone can direct me to a very in depth video on how to properly replace it. I have searched and I have done everything the person in several different videos has done, but still the button doesn't work just stays pushed down.

Hi Tiger,

As PDM said, there is nothing between the power flex cable and the contact, so if you replace your flex cable your power button should function again. This of course assumes that the connectror on the logic board is not dammaged.

The power button not having tactile feedback (clicking) is a common problem with the iPhone 4 and 4S. Since you say that the button does not come back up after you have pushed it, I can think of two possible problems:

Block Image

1: Make sure that the actual button on the flex cable has a small black 'knob' ontop of the dome as shown on the picture to the left:

2: You installed the metal button (the one the protrudes through the frame) the wrong way. Make sure that the small metal ring/bracket is facing down and flush with the power button as you install it.

If the button is not clicking, the button most likely won't work..

Hope this helped? :)

There's nothing between the button on the cable and the aluminum button.

The only things I can think or are these:

1) You didn't quite get things lined up correctly. It can be a bit tricky,

2) You could try loosening the screws that hold the button in. Sometimes I see the button doesn't work if they are tightened all the way down.

Thanks for the advise. I will try it out when I get a new power button cable. The one I just bought lost the golden compression contact, that the power button pushes into, to hit the switch. So that should be here sometime next week.
