iPod dropped in Toilet, damaged by water, won't turn on

I have an iPod touch 2nd gen 16gb. I accidentally dropped it into the toilet. Don't ask why. It worked for 2 minutes, but then stopped working completely.

I cannot bring it to Apple support because of the water damage indicator.

If anyone could help me in the right direction on how to figure out what's wrong, and how it is fixed.

It happened in late April. I put it into rice and blow dryed it. No dice. I got a new iPod, but I would like to see if I could fix my old one. It looks fine from the outside (maybe not the insides of the ports, I don't have the best eyesight).

Thanks for your help

Water damage is the bane of iPod existence. It is very difficult to tell what the exact problem is without just replacing parts one by one, which can get pretty costly.

But I would like to know how I would get the iPod emapart enough to tell what's wrong without destroying anything, so then I can calculate the cost of the replacment parts and see if it is worth fixing it.

Best way to get an estimate on the cost is to test your components. Then see which ones need replacing. Use the guides to the right to see how to take it apart, just remember Be Careful.

Use a multimeter and see what component still work. When you find out what the problem is then purchase your parts from either this site, www.etechparts.com, or www.idemigods.com. What probably happened was when you had it on it shorted out. You should have left it off or turned it of immediately then put it in rice.

Good Luck! Brendon

What should the multimeter reading be?

por

If he took it apart he could test the current on component. No current = Dead component
