My dell xps 630i has a maximum of 8gb of ram 4x2gb modules. I would like to increase the memory to say 16gb with 4x4gb modules instead but everywhere say you can't I would need to replace my machine. I have been happy using this machine for the past 4 years is spending several hundred pounds on a replacement pc my only option?

Bernard, the 630i motherboard officially only supports 8GB of RAM. The other issue here is that you need a 64bit operating system to gain anything to the memory over 4GB. Any 32 bit OS will only access memory up to 4GB. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi again I am running windows in 32bit and I have now tried installing a 64bit operating system but keeps blue screening on the install. Any ideas what to do
Which version Windows? The blue screen is most likely due to incompatible hardware.
his computer does have a 64 bit operating system.. but you are right, he would need a higher system in order to achieve anything higher then 8gb
