WHY WON'T IT CHARGE? New Battery, Worked fine Til it ran down

I bought 2 replacement batteries online. I replaced the battery. It was my first time but I do have some experience with soldering and fixing electrical components. Anyway, after I finished it seemed fine. Everything functioned fine. I tested everything including connecting a charger. It showed that it was charging so I assumed it was. When it finally ran down, I connected it to a charger and although it shows it charging it never actually charged so after trying to charge it for two days I reluctantly replaced the battery again! Using the second battery that I purchased and THE SAME THING HAPPENED! PLEASE HELP! I was repairing it for my son as a surprise and it backfired leaving him very disappointed as well as I.

Was the device not charging the issue that caused you to replace the battery in the first place? Did you make sure that the cable was secured to the logic board correctly? Has the device come into contact with any liquids?

No, the battery charged correctly. It just got to the point where it was going dead quicker and quicker. No liquids and it has a solid secure solder to the board. That's what confuses me. I finish soldering, put it back together and it seemed to work like a charm. The second time I changed the battery I hooked a charger up to it and started a battery app so I could see it charging and it showed the percentege go up by 1% then 2% so I was convienced at that point that it must have worked that time. Then later that night when my son ran it down he put it on the charger, it showed the charging sign on the display but it never charged up at all. I mean surely it couldn't be both brand new batteries that I purchased. I'm just hoping someone has experienced something similar and can give some insight or possibilities.

Try replacing the dock connector, that would be my next best guess.
