Battery won't recharge after complete drain

I ordered a replacement battery from iFixit for my MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009, since the original battery had begun bulging.

I had no issues with the battery replacement.

Just now, I arrived home from a week long vacation to find that my Macbook Pro doesn't seem to recharge. I had took it off the AC and put it in sleep prior to leaving.

The MagSafe indicator light is green, and the OSX battery indicates that:

  • Condition: Replace Now
  • 0% charge
  • Battery is not Charging
  • Power Source: power adapter

I tried resetting SMC and PRAM; along with taking out and putting back in the battery.

After some further research, it seemed that a complete discharge didn't seem to be a good idea =[. But it seems odd for this to occur on a battery that's less than a year old.

It seemed the ultimatum may be buying a new replacement battery (unsure if it'll be from iFixit), or buy an updated Macbook Pro. Unfortunately, I'm on a university student budget. I'm quite happy with the Macbook Pro I have now for just school/work, and I'm hoping to get more life out of it for just few more years. I'm extremely bummed out about this battery issue since I leave my Macbook Pro on for weeks.

I'm hoping to reach out for any ideas/solutions before I reach a decision.

Hmm is this a genuine mac battery?

If so try leaving the laptop turned off with the charger connected for a few hours see if this wakes the battery up.

Sometimes batteries when fully discharged become unrecognizable by the laptop and thus don't charge, but leaving it a while turned off may fix the issue, as the charger with slowly trickle charge the battery back to life.

Although if this dosn't work than you may require a new battery.

I'll try what you've suggested and report back.

Suggested procedure doesn't appear to work. =[

Bugger one last thin could be to force charge it with a power supply if u have one available just make sure u know the correct charge voltage and pins.

Not always suggested these batteries are easy to blow up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I considered the option to manually charge it. But I'm not familiar with this hack and, as you said, it can be easy to botch the battery. I opted to purchase a new battery.
